Long Covid Trial

Shamelessly posting for traffic (Y I am BU) - a quick heads up if you are living with Long Covid. A national research trial is just about to close to participants, so if you want to be included, you need to be quick.

It’s called the LISTEN trial, and is about helping you work out how you can best manage whatever is going on for you. It’s not a cure, but a series of one-to-one sessions to really listen to you, help you identify priorities, and work on strategies and plans for what you need. It is totally personalised – not following a prescriptive ‘do this’ checklist. Neither is it someone telling you to just try yoga and mindfulness and eat more vegetables.

It’s free, is via Zoom, and provided by NHS staff. If you join up, you will be allocated to either the research arm (as described above) or to normal Long Covid care in your area, so being on the trial won’t prevent you from accessing any other support.

I’m really supportive of LISTEN because I was one of the people with Long Covid who helped co-design the trial, and train the health care practitioners working on it. To find out more, take a look here: https://www.listentrial.co.uk/about-listen.html

If you have any questions not answered on the website, please post and I’ll do my best to reply. Bear with me though, as I am 2.5 years in with Long Covid and still very much struggling.

Polite request - it would be really helpful and respectful if those not interested refrain from posting comments which will distract and use up the valuable energy of those who want to find out more. Thank you.

I have Long Covid and am currently attending the Long Covid Clinic in my area, would this prevent me signing up?

I'm a bit frustrated with the "standard" clinic, whilst I appreciate it's a bit of an unknown really and everyone is different, I find the advice given isn't practical for me.

For example I am able to work, but the advice given is to plan my days, in the job I do, that's just not practical or indeed possible, (emergency services) and there doesn't seem to be any advice around it.

Thanks for sharing @LivingWithLongCovid I've had long Covid for almost 2 years now but hadn't heard of the trial so have just applied. Thanks very much!

Thanks for this. I’m 2.5 years in and have been left with permanent damage. My GP never referred me as promised so will try this. Thanks again !

Thank you. I am almost two years post covid. I got to triage on a Nuffield support program but I’d caught covid again three weeks earlier so they couldn’t take me and told me to reapply later.

I’ll look into this.

I'm glad this might be of help! Long Covid can be a lonely road. It's certainly been life changing for me.

@PieonaBarm I'm not sure of the answer to your question. If you drop the LISTEN team an email, they'll be happy to advise.
