Unlike many of the mumsnetters on this thread I don't know anyone who would bat an eyelid at the first dress. I prefer the colour and style of the second dress.

I have never been to the kind of expensive, very formal, very dressed up wedding that so many mumsnetters seem to go to though.

I don’t think weddings are as dressy as they used to be unless you are the mother of the bride or something. I also don’t get the don’t wear anything remotely white thing either. Certainly never gave it a thought when I was a bride. That dress is lovely and not in any way bridal, especially if you have colourful accessories.

Mercedes45 · 17/08/2023 19:36

Too white, too short, too casual. If you are having doubts you will be uncomfortable all day. Just wear something wedding appropriate that you won't be doubting and you will be comfortable and have a better time. Instead of wondering if you are wearing the wrong thing, if you see what I mean.

Littleme2023 · 17/08/2023 21:25

I think it’s too white and too casual, the sort of dress I’d wear to a nice pub lunch with sandals and a huge pair of sunglasses. Have you got any other options you could suggest?

RedDedRedemption · 17/08/2023 21:50

You have a perfectly good backup. Just get that? saves you the hassle of asking this question for future weddings as well...

TakingTheHorseToFrance · 17/08/2023 21:58

I have a wedding next week and I'm wearing something very similar. It absolutely not too short..... if you're petite (like me) it will not be too short nor is it too white! It's covered in print of course you won't be upstanding the bride.

It looks very suitable for a casual wedding. I'm sick of formal constrained dresses and I want to wear something fun that's easy to dance in. I don't think the 2nd dress is as nice as your first choice

Doingmybest12 · 17/08/2023 22:02

I think it's lovely for a friends summer wedding. Much prefer it to the second one.

VitoCorleoneOfMNMafia · 17/08/2023 22:28

If you can afford to, buy them both: the dark one for the wedding and the white one for yourself. They are both lovely but the white one reads to me as "casual day dress".

Blondewithredlips · 17/08/2023 22:43

Not appropriate

RampantIvy · 18/08/2023 08:45

Have some mumsnetters never been to a more informal wedding?

I don't think the dress is inappropriate at all. I just prefer the second one.

category12 · 18/08/2023 15:13

I've been to informal weddings, but I think it's a bit of a risk even so to wear something quite so white. And why would you?

It's supposed to be a fun event, why run the risk of pissing people off when you have the entire rest of the rainbow of colours to play with?

Update if anyone is interested 😂
I wore the backup dress with a fascinator and it was lovely!

Thank you for the update. I loved the second dress.

BeachHutCornwall · 30/08/2023 12:41

I think this dress is an attention grab - and casual

It is a bit too revealing for a formal occasion, and not at all classy - it looks like it costs a fiver from Shien

xILikeJamx · 30/08/2023 12:57

I'm a wedding photographer and folk wear white to weddings all the time and it's never even registered as an issue.

I would say however that it's a bit short and informal though, but that's for you to judge.

The wedding has been and gone. The OP wore the blue dress.
