Today I took my first 20mg fluoxetine tablet for my anxiety. My anxiety is caused by emetophobia (fear of sickness) now I've stupidly ready reviews and so many people have said they vomited a lot. In tears!! Help!! Did you experience vomiting or just nausea?

I’ve been on it twice and had no side effects at all. Same with anyone else I know who has taken it.

You're my savour!! I know I probably seen pathetic having so much anxiety but the reassurance really does help!

I had it a while back, and know many many others (worked at a GP surgery for a few years) and have never heard anyone say it made them sick.

MereDintofPandiculation · 14/08/2023 21:26

Nausea is listed as a side effect; vomiting isn’t.

Thank you thank you!!! I've read it on a few review sites and on TikTok. Genuinely has just made me freak out. It's my own fault looking at the side effects

This is what gave me comfort but then reading reviews of people vomiting constantly for weeks scared the life out of me!!

No nausea or vomiting for me, though it did give me heartburn on the odd occasion when I took it on an empty stomach. Made me feel a lot better, hope it does the same for you OP.

I take fluoxetine and it has never made me vomit. I am unfortunately one of these sicky ppl who vomit easily when unwell with anything ! I found when i first started taking it I felt quite wired and jittery so was best to take in the morning so I could sleep at night

I can't express how much comfort your message has given me!!! I've been told by doctors I have a very 'sensitive' system so hearing someone openly say they get sick easily and it didn't cause it is so helpful. Thank you so much

Thank you so so much!! Fingers crossed. I just have to force myself to take it again tomorrow. I keep panicking that the more I take it the worse I'll feel

I was sick on Sertraline, but never on fluoxetine. I’ve tolerated it so well, never noticed any bad side effects at all with it. X

peachgreen · 14/08/2023 21:36

Nope, not at all and it has been absolutely life-changing for my anxiety which was very severe. I am a different person, absolutely no exaggeration. Best of luck to you.

Sertraline made me feel absolutely vile. I have cyclizine as an anti sickness but sertraline had me over the toilet a lot thinking I was about to be so I only lasted 10 weeks on it. Have myself a bit of a break and now drs have put me on this. I hope I'm the same as you! So frustrating because I know day one is normally a good day, I'm petrified of tomorrow and the day after..so on

You're a peach! Just like your name says. Did you experience any noticeable side effects at all that you remember?

I had trouble sleeping for a bit and some crazy dreams, and I was a bit sweaty! And it took a couple of weeks for the positive effects to kick in. But honestly I’d put up with those side effects permanently if I needed to, my life is a million times better now.

FindingMeno · 14/08/2023 21:47

No side effects at all for me, and a game- changer for anxiety.

Igotjelly · 14/08/2023 21:52

I take Fluoxetine. Only side effect I get is terrible indigestion which does sometimes make me feel quite sick (doctor says it’s something to do with the capsule).

mrwalkensir · 14/08/2023 21:55

I was queasy for the first two days (take it for hot flushes) - and I am if I take it a different time of day. But otherwise fine

Circe32 · 14/08/2023 22:13

I've been on fluoxetine for ages for OCD and depression and never had any side effects. In fact, I suffered from formication side effects with Sertraline but have never had any issues with F. Citalopram didn't work for me either. My advice is to trust your body and if it doesn't feel right, speak with your GP and ask to try a different medication.
Might also be worth trying different times of day and with/without food.
All the best,
Clare
PS don't look at other peoples reviews. just trust your own reactions.

19lottie82 · 14/08/2023 22:39

Another fluoxetine fan here. It helps so much with my anxiety. And no, it’s never made me sick, or feel sick.

stargirl1701 · 14/08/2023 22:45

No side effects with me but it did stop working after 2 years.

PeachF · 14/08/2023 23:06

I take 40mg fluoxetine for exactly the same reason as you, and have been for 4 years. No side effects here either. Wishing you all the best, I know how awful emetophobia is to live with x

MereDintofPandiculation · 14/08/2023 23:11

I don't know whetehr it will help. but I've found that if I look at a possible side effect and say to myself "well I can't be doing with that. I'm not going to get that", then I don't. Since placebos apparently work even if the person is told about them "This pill contains nothing but sugar but many people with your condition have found it works for them", positive thinking has got to be worth a try!
