AIBU to be this anxious

Not sure where to post this but hopefully people can snap me out of this.

I walk every single day to the shops or around our town sometimes more than once and always feel very safe. It's a nice town, lots of families etc.

We found out that recently some kids were robbed at knifepoint right near our house. I haven't managed to leave the house since unless in the car.

It's making me really sad that I suddenly don't feel safe. I know I am unreasonable to feel like this and am an anxious person anyway but can't seem to shake this off me and bring myself to get out for a walk.

Any tips or advice?

You really will have to just do it. The longer you don’t do it the bigger the anxiety gets so you need to do it soon.
Is there someone who could, for the first couple of times at least, come and walk with you?
Maybe a chat to the Dr, they may be able to prescribe something to help, propranolol for example, that you take before you go for your walk. It stops the physical symptoms so you don’t feel so panicky. Hopefully, once you see things are exactly the same as they’ve always been, you will just be able to walk as usual.
I hope things improve for you soon Flowers

How recently did you find out? As in, have you given yourself a chance to process and adjust to the shock before starting to beat yourself up?

It is normal to feel anxious when something punctures our sense of safety.
