Is this weird?

DH and I are feeding our neighbours' cat while they're away on holiday. We've been neighbours for over a decade and while we don't live eachother's pockets, we have DC the same age and I'd class them as friends. I wash up the cat bowls in between feeds and noticed that they were nearly out of washing up liquid, so picked up a new bottle while we were at the supermarket. DH is squirming with embarrassment and trying to convince me it's a weird thing to do. I think it's completely normal and just a nice thing to do.

YABU - your neighbours will think you're weird.
YANBU - it's fine.

Why does your husband think it’s weird?! It’s totally normal and a nice neighbourly thing to do

Thought you were going to say you checked the labels of your neighbours knickers or something

OwlBeGone · 12/08/2023 12:39

Your DH is the one being weird. Buying helps you look after the cat, it's not as though you bought it for no apparent reason.

ilovelamp82 · 12/08/2023 12:41

Why would that be weird? Your husband is weird.

Sameold23 · 12/08/2023 12:41

It's weird 🙂

Tilllly · 12/08/2023 12:42

My neighbour has done this for me

Not weird, lovely ☺️

Also restocked the dreamies but then she has a very generous treat hand 🤣

Ducklake · 12/08/2023 12:43

Not weird as you’re actually washing cat bowls there.
If they’d just asked you put the lights on and off or collect the post it would have been weird.

TregunaMekoides · 12/08/2023 12:44

Of course it's not weird. Especially as you've been using the washing up liquid. I would have done the same. Just to completely blow your DH mind, I might even have bought milk and bread for them 😱

10HailMarys · 12/08/2023 12:45

Not weird at all.

Marynotsocontrary · 12/08/2023 12:46

As you're using the washing up liquid it's okay. Otherwise it would be very weird though.

DannyLaRuesBestFrock · 12/08/2023 12:46

No your husband is being weird. Squirming with embarrassment? How old is he? 12?

BlowDryRat · 12/08/2023 12:48

Ok, bear with me. DH bought a potted plant the other day to replace a house plant we'd managed to kill. It came in this crab pot, which neither of us want. I jokingly said to him that we should put it on display on our neighbours' house and see how long it takes them to notice (they have lots of nice nick nacks). I won't actually do that, because it really would be odd, but I think it's got DH on alert.

It's weird 🙂

Why though?

H is weird. They won't even notice 🤔

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 12/08/2023 12:51

Buying washing up liquid. Not weird. Putting or even suggesting putting a plant pot in neighbours house. Weird. Very weird.

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 12/08/2023 12:52

It's perfectly normal.

Hillrunning · 12/08/2023 12:58

Totally fine and normal.

coreas · 12/08/2023 13:00

The pot thing is weird.

Buying washing up liquid is not weird.

Yes this is weird. Very weird. You seem a bit overexcited that you have access to this neighbours house.

the washing up liquid much less weird but I’d have probably just brought a bit extra from home.

Oysterbabe · 12/08/2023 13:03

Not weird. I think I'd do this.
We have a friendly hands off relationship with our neighbours. Mostly leave eachother alone but also happy to lend and borrow bits and bobs when needed.

Curtains70 · 12/08/2023 13:08

Not weird at all, I'd probably get bread and milk for when they get back as well 🤷‍♀️

Riapia · 12/08/2023 13:34

The weird thing would have been to leave the cats unfed because they had not left enough liquid to wash the bowls.

PonyPatter44 · 12/08/2023 13:36

The crab pot thing is weird. Buying a bit more washing up liquid is not weird at all, in fact it's quite a nice thing to do!

Ohyousillydivvy · 12/08/2023 13:38

Your husband is weird and doesn't have adequate social communication skills if he thinks buying fairy liquid is weird.

I'm really not. I go in, feed the cat, let him out/secure him for the night, wash up, check the litter box and that he hasn't pooed on the living room rug, and lock up again.

I am beginning to wonder if you’re both a touch odd 🫢
