Fire safety

First time doing airbnb and have arrived in our cottage in the UK. Downstairs is open plan, but in the kitchen (or anywhere) there is no fire extinguisher/ fire blanket and the oven faces a wall so if you want to cook anything you have to put it in sideways. I'm proper uncomfortable but don't know if it is illegal or I'm paranoid to feel like this? Any ideas?

Are there fire alarms/smoke detectors?

Sugarfree23 · 12/08/2023 01:31

I think the fire blanket and extinguisher are normally insurance requirements. But I wouldn't worry about them.

What I would check is the smoke alarms.

In the event of a fire - grab your family -and get to France out the building

The oven faces a wall? I don’t understand this.

There is one fire alarm / smoke / heat detector in the downstairs kitchen bit. Opening the oven to get the pizza showed us this

Be sensible and careful. Don't use candles which you're probably not allowed to use, anyway. Get familiar with where all of the exits are. You shouldn't have any issues. Try to relax and enjoy yourself.

The oven is in the units but when you pull the door down you can't stand in front of it to take stuff out, you have to stand to the side as the door is about 6 inches from the wall

Ah. I can see that having to stand to the side of the oven is annoying, but not why it would be a fire risk.

To be fair I don't know! I just felt taking the pizzas in and out was really awkward and that made it unsafe, not necessarily for the pizzas but fatty dishes where you don't want to spill the fat etc
