Vile self published book

Some idiot has self published a crappy romance novel set in our part of Chester which is set on our street, names it by name, makes loads of references to the women on the street being obese orange Karen types with cheap costume jewelry. 4 by 4s on their way to Matalan etc. Very anti woman and foul. Doesn't name anyone by name and the house numbers used don't exist. Do we (the women on this relatively small cul de sac) have any recourse?? They've been promoting this magnum opus in all the FB groups etc 😒

Unless you are named then no. It's being sold as fiction. Is it being published under a real or fake name?

IveHadItUpToHere · 12/08/2023 00:15

No you don't have any recourse because no-one is named, the house numbers don't exist, etc. It's impossible to say they're based on real people and there's no law against using real street and place names.
Also don't understand why you care. You're just giving them more publicity. Self published books don't tend to have large readership numbers unless they spend fortunes on advertising or are very well written.

If you’re not identifiable then I don’t think there’s any recourse available.

Unfortunately writing misogynistic drivel isn’t a crime.

Some people think American Psycho is a good book, I think it’s shit.

I don’t think they know what Karen is supposed to mean.

Sadly you don’t. I am sure the local paper and the Daily Mail would love to hear from you, but that’s just publicity for them, so..
