AIBU to find these cute and to just let them be? Of course I’m not but I wanted to share that this little nest has hatched and is going to be left well alone. They’re in the conservatory so will no doubt make their own way out. The summers been a wash out but it’s been good for the wildlife with lots of butterflies visiting the garden too.

Good for you?

Pickledpigeon · 08/08/2023 17:25

Nice to see someone post in appreciation of spiders. The other ones are so tedious.

PimpMyFridge · 08/08/2023 17:29

I agree with a @Pickledpigeon 🕷️
I remember when I was a kid there was an egg sac on our shed door. I happened to be looking when it hatched.
Hundreds of tiny spiders came out and it went from being a tight black cluster to a wide circular patch of moving 'dust' to gone and all over in no time at all!
It was so fascinating to watch, and a miracle, all these little things so small you couldn't even make out their legs, but they all knew exactly what to do and did it so quickly. If I'd looked away for a moment I'd have missed it.

I love spiders

EBWhite · 08/08/2023 17:35

Thanks Pickledpigeon! Pimpedmyfridge, I agree. Nature is wonderful ☺️ I’m sure there are some who would be in there to sweep them out and bleach the place clean.

I have a spider that lives in a small vase in my windowsill. I sometimes break his web which he builds just outside the vase when I do dusting but he soon rebuilds it. We call him felix

PimpMyFridge · 08/08/2023 17:53

We have various spiders in our house whose lives we watch and they have names. Bob is our favourite.

SoThisIsSummer · 08/08/2023 17:56

Is there supposed to be a picture.

I also remember rhe wonder of seeing this outside on a bush! Absolutely amazing.

Nowadays it depends what kind of spider to be honest and where.

EBWhite · 08/08/2023 18:01

Forgot the picture!

Oh yeah those are already too big for my liking. They'd be scooped up on a sheet of paper and evicted.

SoThisIsSummer · 08/08/2023 18:18

Op what kind of spiders are they? They look suspiciously like streada noblis?

ItsNotRocketSalad · 08/08/2023 18:19

Have you named the mama Charlotte?

I had quite a few spider friends in my old house, mostly giant house spiders and false widows, and none at all in this one. I miss them; my kitten is enthusiastic about catching flies but not quite so efficient as spiders. I moved quite far north and I think it's too cold for them.

SweetPetrichor · 08/08/2023 18:31

I keep tarantulas and recently noticed that a native spider has moved into one of my arboreal tarantula enclosures. So now my pet has a pet! 😁
I love spiders, every spider in who turns up in our house is a celebrated as a new family member!
