Getting a new bed for when second baby comes - AIBU?

We used to have a lovely big bed with a headboard (rental) with our first baby, and now we have our own place our bed is quite crappy. The mattress is fab but the actually bed frame is flimsy and you can't put anything heavier than a feather in the underbed drawers without them breaking.

I want to get a new bed to have with our new baby. We don't cosleep in bed (just cosleeper cot), but I do remember spending a lot of time there.

How important do you think a great bed is with a second baby?

My husband thinks it's an unreasonable luxury, as well as getting the old bed out and a new one up five flights of stairs etc. We'll also be moving house a year later anyway.

I'm wondering if I'm just "over-prepping" because I know it will be hard, and I'm thinking a new bed is going to fix things, when it won't. It will be hard whatever!

As it's only a frame you need it's not too expensive. I just got one from M&S and it's extremely sturdy and the assembled it for us. Under bed storage from Ikea (Stubb?) was cheap and it's great.

Sleep is vital.

That's a good thought. I've actually only looked second hand and have been shocked at how much people are asking for second hand bed frames. Ideally we wouldn't want to spend more than £200 (and £100 if possible).

Decision made! Decided to take off the fronts of the drawers and put Ikea storage in there, and to buy a headboard you can screw onto the wall.
Looked at all the IKEA and M&S beds, didn't like them any more than the one I already have.
Oh woe, to only like antique beds... :-)
