Will this be enough to lose weight

Getthisfatsuitoffme · 07/08/2023 21:02

So tired of being fat.

Tired of not being able to wear the beautiful & trendy clothes I want to wear.
Tired of how it makes me look so awful (I don’t carry weight well, when slim I’m quite good looking, with weight on, pretty awful looking)
I want to have more energy and feel a lot better.
I want my 5 year old Dd to be proud of me
I want to be in the best health I can to be around longer for my Dd

I need to lose around 3 stone

In the past I could only lose weight and maintain with cardio and frequent cardio, plus low/no carbs.

I eat healthily, but probably too much, this coupled with no exercise routine anymore or finding time for it means the weight has piled on after years of fertility meds and pregnancy.

If I went on the exercise bike 3-4 times per week and walked my dog every day, would I see weight loss, how long would it take?

I really want a wonderful, slim summer next year

Weight loss is far more about what you eat rather than exercise.

I exercise hard every day, lift weights, climb, run, hike, play sport, cycle etc. I never lose weight, in fact I tend to gain tbh as I'm lifting very heavy and trying to bulk.

Getthisfatsuitoffme · 07/08/2023 21:06

@ShowOfHands The only times in my life when I’ve maintained a size 10 is when I’ve worked out a few times per week 🤷🏻‍♀️

Weight loss at least 80% about the food you eat. So that’s where you need to concentrate.

Whataretheodds · 07/08/2023 21:07

You will fare much better if you add some resistance work into your routine. Don't be scared of weights!

cardibach · 07/08/2023 21:08

People say it’s diet not exercise, it I know if I exercise 20 mins or more every day and just eat sensibly I lose weight.

tulippa · 07/08/2023 21:09

Exercise bikes don't use up many calories compared to something like running.

IamAlso4eels · 07/08/2023 21:09

You can't outrun a bad diet. Weight loss at its core is calories in vs calories out but actually losing weight is more mentally/emotionally complex than that.

I'd recommend something like Team RH Fitness which supports calories and exercise without cutting out food groups and calculates you a calorie deficit where you eat to the maximum needed for weight loss rather than the minimum needed to survive.

And me.
I don’t eat crap anyway, but I need to exercise regularly to maintain.

IamAlso4eels · 07/08/2023 21:10

Also at three stone overweight, you don't need to cane it with the exercise bike. Your best form of exercise is simply walking because you will burn a load of calories just by carrying yourself around.

LaMaG · 07/08/2023 21:13

I agree its mostly about what you eat but if I schedule exercise I'll eat better all day cos I can't exercise after eating crap and after exercise I feel healthier and will naturally eat better.

LaMaG · 07/08/2023 21:14

I also have 3 stone to lose and feel every ounce of it with every step i take.

pandy23 · 07/08/2023 21:22

I also have 3 stone to lose and feel exactly the same as you OP, I pretty much could have written your post.

Despite feeling like that I can't seem to sort myself out.

I need to feel that switch and feel positive that I can do it. Each day I wake I think right I'll be good today only to fail Blush x

Eggandcresspleasemummy · 07/08/2023 21:25

I’ve only ever found calorie counting to be effective to be honest - I know a fair few people will disagree with this. However I managed to lose 7 stone in 12 months restricting myself to 1000 calories a day and have maintained the weight ever since on 1500-2000 calories daily. It’s not easy, it takes a fair bit of willpower, and there will be times when you’ll be hungry. But it’s worth it when you get down to your goal weight - your health and energy levels will improve, not to mention looking fab in your clothes. Maintaining the weight loss is the hardest part I think, and it requires a major rethink about how you view food. I joined weight watchers - didn’t follow the diet, as I found it made me think about food a lot more, but I found the weekly meetings and discussions about attitudes to food really helpful, as were the weigh ins for motivation.

Maintaining weight is different from losing weight.

You won’t see any significant weight loss just like that. Doesn’t mean it’s not good for you but the reality is it’s diet that is how you lose weight.

IamAlso4eels · 07/08/2023 21:26

1000 a day!? That's far too low for long term health.

OP, look up Team RH. It's £6.99 a month and you'll be surprised at how many calories you can eat once exercise is factored in. I lost two stone on it and that was doing 15k steps a day and eating 2200 calories.

greeen · 07/08/2023 21:27

The only thing that helps me to stay focused is using my smart watch / fitness watch to see how many calories I'm burning a day vs how many I'm consuming.

gothshot · 07/08/2023 21:28

Losing weight is all about being in a calorie deficit, so if you think you're overeating then you probably need to cut down.
I'm currently using the nutra check app, I haven't cut anything out but I just stick to my allocated calories and try to go for a walk every day. It's £30 for 12 months but I lost 3lbs last week so it works really well for me. The most I've lost using it is 10lbs but I'm not massively overweight.

BunnyBetChetwynnd · 07/08/2023 21:31

I lead a very active life (sea swimming, dog walking, gardening) and have been three stone overweight for years. I'd tried to lose weight several times, would lose a few pounds and then put it back on with some more too. All the activity didn't get or keep me slim because I ate and drank too much unhealthy, fattening food. I felt pretty fit, but awful about how I looked and was getting joint pain.

I joined Slimming World in January and have now lost 3 stone. I've not been hungry once and the structure of a balanced diet plus the exercise has got me where I want to be. I'm nearly 60 and would say that the exercise alongside the healthy eating has helped me shape up and not have saggy bits and skin as I've lost weight.

willWillSmithsmith · 07/08/2023 21:34

Take sugar totally out of your diet and watch your carb intake and you will lose weight even with minimal exercise. I can attest to it. I’ve lost 10kg since May doing that.

1Step2Step · 07/08/2023 21:35

I was at my heaviest in January and vowed I would try anything to lose the weight. I am 45 and it just won’t budge like it used to. After a couple more failed attempts at the start of the year I decided to sign up to Juniper around Easter time who prescribed Saxenda (my BMI was bordering on 29/30). I combine it with a sensible diet and light exercise (walking) and I have lost almost 2 st. I reckon need to lose another stone to get back to a size 10 . I find the medication takes away the “food noise “ when you’re trying to eat healthy and not snack etc I’m no longer clock watching for my next meal or getting cravings for particular processed foods (mine was savoury snacks , wine, cheese) iykwim

I am a bit nervous though as to what happens when I come off it.

RhymesWithTangerine · 07/08/2023 21:44

You need to diet. Exercise is always good but this is about how much you eat.

Getthisfatsuitoffme · 07/08/2023 21:44

@1Step2Step What is Saxenda?

OP posts:
Getthisfatsuitoffme · 07/08/2023 21:46

My weakness is savoury too, im
not fussed about sweets, cakes, chocolate etc, but do love crisps and dips 😬I barejy drink now, so it’s not that.
Walking isn’t enough, I walk lots with my dog, it’s never made a difference unfortunately
@IamAlso4eels Is 3 stone a massive amount?

OP posts:
Getthisfatsuitoffme · 07/08/2023 21:48

Also, would you say joining a gym gives you more motivation? I’m embarrassed to go looking like this tbh, but one I’ve seen has all the equipment, plus pools and classes, so if I could somehow fit it in, it would be amazing

OP posts:
Bandyarsia · 07/08/2023 21:58

You are 3 stone overweight because of your diet so it is your diet you need to tackle first and foremost.
