Shellac manicure is this normal?

I get a shellac manicure every 2/3 weeks. I got my last one last week and it was still looking ok so I booked in for next week.
Today I went swimming with my children hadn't been in ages as their dad usually takes them and when I got out of the pool my shellac was peeled from the top of the nail down not the nail bed. My thumbs were ok funnily enough. Is this normal?
I'm wondering as we are planning on bringing the children swimming every week so I don't want to be paying money for something that won't last iykwim.

I wouldn’t have thought so. My daughter had hers done for holiday and she was in the pool every day and hers were fine.

Definitely not normal.

No doesn’t sound right

Lkahsvtv · 07/08/2023 20:48

No, I’ve had mine done for holidays in the pool every day and while it doesn’t then last 2/3 weeks it certainly lasts 1.5-2 weeks

I get shellac manicures every 3 weeks and also go swimming. It’s only happened to me once before and on just the one nail. Definitely not normal.

Was it the actual shellac brand cured with the CND shellac uv light?

If it was a mix and match, it may not have cured properly.

cozycashmere · 07/08/2023 23:12

@GoingGoingUp I have a feeling this may have been the issue the lady doing my nails seemed to struggle with the colour initially as it seemed to have run out then she was very quick with the uv light and the top coat looked like a different brand.

Thanks everyone will see how I get on when I get them done again and after my next swim, could be just the salon I go to not following the correct procedures which may not have affected the quality for my normal day to day but when I went swimming it weakened and broke down.

I e always found shellac comes off in pools. Found gels to be much better

GoingGoingUp · 07/08/2023 23:35

That sounds likely, hence why it peeled off rather than the edges simply being a little chipped.

Me too. I stopped having shellac because it often peeled. I have gels now and it lasts longer and never peels or chips.
