Children running around restaurant WWYD?

Please could you tell me what you'd do in this situation:

In a hotel restaurant at breakfast there were two young children about age 4 running around and screeching. It wasn't clear where the parents/adults were that they were with. They were eating while running in front of guests who were carrying hot drinks and food from the breakfast buffet and going up to other tables and carrying on their screeching.

What would you do in this situation?

@ginandtonicwithlimes I had my posts removed and got told off for saying the same thing. MN is full of weirdos thinking it's acceptable to do those things to little kids just because they're being "disruptive "

That's a bit disingenuous

Personal attacks are not allowed on Mumsnet. That's why.

LemonPeonies · 13/08/2023 12:07

@Amispringy I had personal attacks hurled at me also. Seems very strange to me that that is viewed as worse than saying you'd attack children but whatever, this place is a different world to the real one.

Nah I remember seeing your Posts they were quiet psychopathic.

If you don't like MNHQ 's moderating decisions take it up with them.

I bet he wouldn't have felt the same if his child had been tripped. What an dickhead.

Surely that's why he did it though, the parent is taking no notice so no one would see him stick out his foot or whatever he did. It would be assumed it was a genuine tumble and that's it.

Queen of hyperbole

@Spencerfloral how would you stop them then? With words? 🤨

My kids never ran around restaurants. This was before screens became the norm. And we certainly didn’t restrain them. We were just very clear about expectations and also I am sure some luck came into it. I can’t imagine having to run after my kids. They didn’t have special needs though, which I understand of course can make things more difficult.

And the amount of adults on here arguing with me knowing in the real world my opinion would be the most common, disagreeing with adults essentially attacking children. Shows what gutless keyboard warriors you all are, not in a hells chance would have the guts to challenge an adult though.

I am late to this thread. Why has MN deleted so many comments of yours and delivered a warning? Aggressive content?

The staff member absolutely should not have pointed you out. The issue is the children's behaviour, not that you complained.

I'd escalate it at the hotel so they can put appropriate training in place. You being subjected to a rant by another customer because the hotel staff failed to deal with the situation appropriately, isn't on.

This.

I would formally complain to management and head office.

I would report to health and safety and I would leave an absolutely almighty stinker of a review spelling out what you have written in your OP.

Likewise that other thread about the 5* hotel where the children were running around.

This happened a friend of mine a few years ago and she was brushed off by staff too.

She too wrote to HO and left a stinker of a review that it most certainly was not a place to stay for a 5* experience as the staff were happy for noise levels resembling a creche and she wouldn't darken the place again.

She was contacted by the hotel with an apology and a free two night stay.
She used it and enjoyed it.

Young children running around hot food is stressful and I wouldn't tolerate it.

We largely avoided family hotels when mine were young.

I have a very tolerance for noisy children.

My youngest has just turned 18 and we are on a wonderful break to Spain at an adults-only hotel so don’t have to contend with this.

However the beautiful idyllic breakfasts have been slightly spoilt twice by oblivious adults on loud video calls to their friends and family. It’s not only parents are who are idiots.

Jenasaurus · 13/08/2023 12:52

Its weird that the hotels response was that if they get scolded it is their fault and nothing they can do, in contrast I was eating at one hotel restaurant and was told to move my handbag that was slightly poking out, in case someone tripped over it. What a strange world we live in. I would probably have removed myself from the situation, but as you had your own DC with you who was probably hungry and wanted to eat their breakfast its completely unfair on you.

Yes some adults are only adult by age and not behaviour :(

LemonPeonies · 13/08/2023 12:55

I think it's more psychopathic to pick on toddlers personally @Againstmachine and I'm not the only one who disagreed with it so perhaps argue with them instead.

Jenasaurus · 13/08/2023 13:00

Off subject here OP but I saw from your user name you are also a lego lover, I am currently putting together some lego flowers my DD got me for my 57th birthday (My DC dont like Lego but I find it therapeutic.)

Back to the topic, I hope you get an apology from the hotel and the rest of your day is better.

And there you go again you were practically threatening other posters that's why you got deleted, accept you were wrong.

So how do you differentiate between someone purposefully doing something and an accident.

The easiest solution is not to let children run around at full pelt and nothing will happen to them.

They probably had parents who let them run riot disrupting people as children.

angsanana · 16/10/2023 17:12

Invite them to join you at your table. You'll soon figure out who their parents are

enchantedsquirrelwood · 16/10/2023 18:26

Staff/management of cafes/hotels/restaurants need to start putting rules in place.

No mobile phone conversations and definitely not with speaker on.

Screens with headphones.

No running around.

No shrieking.

They shouldn't have to, but it seems like some people just can't behave sensibly these days, whatever age they are.

yes it's interesting how many people moan about inconsiderate youngsters on e-scooters but then let their kids ride on the non electric ones in shopping centres. Is it too simple to think that one leads to the other?
