What dirt/germs exactly transfer from tube to sofa?

BellsMoon · 05/08/2023 21:51

Lol, Barrell. Growing up, we had throws on the sofa and chairs. Mum used to whip them off as soon as guests left and stick on clean throws. It came from growing up in a very dry, dusty (outside) environment.

ZolaBudd · 05/08/2023 21:51

No. She’s just a twat

Twilight7777 · 05/08/2023 21:55

Candice is batshit imo

Thank you - not something I do, but makes sense!

I voted for Marek. Poor sap.

Merseymum992 · 05/08/2023 22:04

I can't believe I took the time to read that rubbish. Who cares if you're unreasonable or not 🤣

AngryGreasedSantaCatcus · 05/08/2023 22:07

Not really (or at all) fussed about germs, mess or dirt but home clothes are definitely a thing.Grin

Dymaxion · 05/08/2023 22:20

Does this mean I should wash/put special indoors clothes on the dog before we both go for a nap on the bed on my days off ? I climb under the covers wearing whatever clothes I have on regardless of if I have left the house or not and she stays on top of the duvet very quietly passing wind ?

CatsSnore · 05/08/2023 21:31

I am not germ phobic but would never ever sit on my bed wearing clothes I had worn when being outside. Yuk!

Oh, I'm reading this while lying on my bed in clothes I've worn out to a party this afternoon/evening.

I didn't realise that was wrong 🙃

Threenow · 05/08/2023 22:27

dieselKiller · 05/08/2023 16:54

The tube is filthy. You should definitely change clothes and shower after being on the tube.

There’s nothing wrong with having indoor clothes and outdoor clothes. It doesn’t make you phobic nor mad. It’s just like taking your outdoor shoes off when you come inside: normal. Broaden your minds, people.

Not everyone uses the tube and I don't know a single person who has indoor clothes and outdoor clothes. I also don't know anyone who takes their outdoor shoes off when they come inside - if I did that I would get nothing done due to being too busy taking off and putting back on shoes!

AngryGreasedSantaCatcus · 05/08/2023 22:32

@Threenow how many times a day do you leave the house?

Btw, nice to meet you. I have house clothes/outside clothes AND take my shoes off. Now you know someone.Grin

I don't think you're wrong in your own bed. It's down to you. I just have a thing about it. I'm not sure when it started, I was quite young with a boyfriend from Jamaica a couple of decades ago so maybe it became embedded from him 😂 he was also the cleanest man I have ever known, properly cleaned the bath out after a shower and washed his boxers in the shower before they went in the washing machine. Wouldn't let me put tea towels in the washing machine with our clothes either 😂 so I'm not a germ phobe as my pants get washed with the tea towels, but the outside clothes must have stuck!

Thepeopleversuswork · 05/08/2023 22:34

I’m sorry if I’m being culturally insensitive but life is just too short for indoor and outdoor clothes.

What a carry on. You would never get anything done.

I couldn’t live with that level of neurosis. I would actually leave if I was Marek.

Maggiesgirl · 05/08/2023 13:48

How is it possible to spend 45 minutes in the shower!

I get in wash, wash and condition my hair, shave my legs and am out in 15 minutes! Is she just standing in there!

Sorry that's an awful lot of explanation marks but my god!

She is thoroughly washing every possible crack...

For my family it’s more we have clothes we wear when not going out rather than changing as soon as you get home.

And they’re usually a bit ratty as they’re very comfortable and good for doing whatever work that’s needed.

So today I’ve been in all day so I’m in a very oversized muslin tunic too and yoga pants with bleach stains which have been washed a million times so they’re really soft.

Trevellion · 05/08/2023 22:44

Genuinely curious here. People who do the inside/outside clothes thing, how do you manage it? Is it OK to walk to your bedroom to change if you don't linger? I had to do that to protect my school uniform and get changed into home clothes. Or is the demarcation so strict that you change clothes at the door? What about visitors?

CatsSnore · 05/08/2023 22:52

I forgot I had to change out of my uniform as a child. Maybe that's where the comfort of getting changed after being out comes from. I couldn't imagine anything worse than wearing jeans in the evening! Obviously exaggerating but I love coming home and taking off my office wear or jeans and putting leggings and top on (in my bedroom).

I couldn't be arsed with the washing off clothes every day. If I've only worn my clothes to work they aren't dirty and can be worn again. There's no cooking smells, food dribbles (I always miss my mouth and spill drinks) and my leggings or lounge wear is much comfier. It does make it hard to want to leave the house so I don't get changed unless I'm staying in for the evening.

It's not that complicated. Shoes off at the door, then go into the the bedroom, bra always comes off, and if I'm taking that off might as well change it all. Anyways, pick up top and bottoms, get changed , if needed the clothes I wore go in the wash basket or put away for another wear. Shower at night before bed , with extra during heatwaves.

DojaPhat · 05/08/2023 23:10

Just read the article and see she's Caribbean which means she really should have known better.

Thingsthatgo · 05/08/2023 23:32

I'm quite intrigued by people who are afraid of germs and dirt; it seems to be the concept of germs rather than any actual fear of becoming unwell from bacteria or viruses.
If you sit on your bed in the jeans that you've worn on the bus, it's very unlikely to make you unwell. So is it just the thought of germs makes you feel a certain way?

Even less time on the days when you don’t shave your legs then

Has a journalist moved up market from the Daily mail?

Hardly upmarket, a move to the Grauniad!

dieselKiller · 05/08/2023 23:51

People make all sorts of decisions about the level of dirt that they’ll put up with and in what circumstances without being afraid of germs or afraid of anything. I try to keep pollen, oil, particulates, and 💩 off my bed and particularly off my pillow, so if I were going to sit on my bed in clothes I wore on the bus, I wouldn’t sit at the head of the bed and in general I would just change clothes because that’s cleaner. It’s no hardship and I don’t really think about it. Just seems like a very easy and obvious way to go about life.
