To be worried about MN security?

I read elsewere that there is/was a problem with Advanced Search showing previous usernames if you search for a particular user. This seems, to me, to be quite a bad security issue.

I don't know if it has been fixed yet but it was only reported a couple of days ago.

I just tried AS myself. It hardly found any of my posts under this name. Let alone any under my previous names.

It matters. I for one name changed if I wanted to refer to aspects of the school I taught in that might conceivably have resulted in my being disciplined.
Posters might give personal information under a name change in good faith, so this kind of security is important.

I think it matters. People share incredibly personal stuff here and we should be able to trust that out details are reasonably protected. However, I think it's a good reminder that while we think we are anonymous we can't be guaranteed that and take some basic steps to not 'reveal' too much that would enable others to connect the dots. I have previously recognised someone due to the detail they have shared and an unusual posting name (plus their tone I guess once I suspected).

Sometimes posters are trying to be helpful to others, sharing an experience, but one that would add one more bit of info that might identify them.
