NC but regular poster and apologies this isn't really an AIBU but I'm worried so posting for traffic.
DD (15 months) was sent home from nursery last Friday was a temp of 38.2. She'd started being a bit snotty with a bit of a cough the day before, but wasn't grumpy and didn't have fever on the Friday morning (I checked).
She had a low grade fever over the weekend which came and went, but by Tuesday morning, she seemed better (if a little clingy still) so she went to nursery. They asked me to pick her up at 3pm as her temp was now 38.9!
I tried to get a GP appointment as nursery said she'd also been sticking her fingers in her ears, but the GP had no appointments left. Told me to call our local GP hub, but the number redirected to a pre-recorded message saying it was no longer in use and to call 111 to make an appointment, which I duly did. 111 sent us to the local paeds A&E (they said they couldn't make an appointment at the GP hub for reasons they couldn't share when questioned). In triage, it was found that DD's heart rate was high (over 160 so tachycardic). Dr said ears and throat a bit red, but chest clear so probably viral. They wanted to monitor her and eventually after several hours of the same, they did bloods. When the results came back they said no sign of infection and we could go home but to bring her back if at all concerned.
Wednesday night her temp spiked at 39.7 (highest I've ever seen it) and she seemed so unwell, but after some more ibuprofen it dropped to around 38 and she settled. As she seemed to be getting worse (or at least no better) I decided to contact the GP yesterday who asked me to bring her in. He said he thinks she has a secondary bacterial infection and one ear was slightly red, but it wasn't a raging ear infection. Got antibiotics and she had 2 doses yesterday and has had 3 today. Last night her temp went right down to around 37.2 (still high for her) and her heart rate also came back down to a more normal level when sleeping (we have an owlet) of 125ish, although normal for her is more like 90-100. It had been regularly 150-160 the past few nights. Hooray I thought, the antibiotics are working and she's on the mend, but this morning her temp was back up to 38 so I gave calpol. She's been a bit better in herself today but this afternoon she's been really upset again and her temp is back at 38. Ibuprofen given at 5pm.
It's really worrying me that after almost 2 full days of antibiotics she isn't much better and is still spiking temps. Also that she's had fevers for a whole week now. Dr Google (I know) warns me of Kawasaki disease. I also noticed yesterday her tongue had a bit of a white coating (but wasn't strawberry like) and this afternoon she's got purple areas on the bit of her hand between the base of her thumb and wrist - they look like bruises - and could be, she's still at the stage of walking with a lot of falling. No other rashes, no vomiting, no upset stomach, no red eyes.
I'm particularly worried about Kawasaki disease, but I think any medical professional would probably say it's her ear and we need to give the antibiotics longer.
Should they be working by now? Would you be concerned given the above? Would you get her seen again (which would mean paeds A&E again as Drs now closed). I'm just so worried and thought I'd ask the great mumsnet hive mind as to what you would do or your experiences with prolonged temps.
