To stay in a hotel room with no en suite?

DH&I are going away for a weekend very soon. It's a rare child free weekend away;I'm a full time carer for three disabled teenagers with various levels of need so some respite is desperately needed.

Also as for the reasons above we are watching our budget as we are a one income household and carers allowance isn't very much.

Where we're going is beautiful but not the cheapest because it's August;we've had to rule out other places because of accommodation prices.

Any we were looking at mainly chain hotels that fell within budget but the ratings&reviews aren't that great.

Then I stumbled across a little gem with one room left for our dates;a gorgeous looking little independent 10 bedroom hotel that's a 12th century period property with breakfast included that has incredible reviews and great ratings with lots of people saying the breakfast is excellent and it was a good price too;it's well within our budget with free parking (unlike the other hotels).

But then I discovered why it's so reasonably priced;it doesn't have a en suite bathroom;it's the only room without one however there's a bathroom that exclusively for the use of the room a few steps across the corridor.

My husband isn't keen as he says it's inconvenient however we've previously stayed with the kids in youth hostels and had to use the communal bathrooms.I don't see
the issue,we'll just take flip flops and dressing gowns to traverse across the corridor to the bathroom;I would think with only a few bedrooms and according to the reviews they are spaced out across 4 sections of the building we probably won't really encounter other people often.

AIBU in booking this room?

I'd absolutely go for it. Like you say, flip flops and a dressing gown solves the issue. It's not sharing with strangers.
Go for it!

KimberleyClark · 03/08/2023 10:20

As long the bathroom is not actually a shared one I would be fine with this.

Frabbits · 03/08/2023 10:20

If the bathroom is exclusive use then I would go for it. Nobody is going to care if they see you walking over to it in dressing gowns or whatever.

AHugeTinyMistake · 03/08/2023 10:22

I'd have no problem with that at all. I hope you enjoy your stay.

RagzRebooted · 03/08/2023 10:22

Go for it. Have a lovely time!

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 03/08/2023 10:22

Sounds fine to me! Have fun!

LlynTegid · 03/08/2023 10:22

As it is only for you I'd be OK with it.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/08/2023 10:22

It will be fine. We did this once and there were no problems at all. Didn’t bother with dressing gowns - just shorts and a T-shirt.

RipePeach · 03/08/2023 10:25

Sounds fabulous! I think I'd actually prefer this - I hate having to listen to DH going to the loo whilst I'm in bed 😂

DuploTrain · 03/08/2023 10:25

I think that would be fine. None of the other rooms will know it’s there as they will have the en-suites.

Hope you enjoy your break

AdverbPlease · 03/08/2023 10:26

I can be a fussy primadonna but would snap this up! Enjoy the well-deserved break x

QueSyrahSyrah · 03/08/2023 10:26

I'd book it without a second thought OP. Have a lovely time!

Glockamorra · 03/08/2023 10:27

I say go for it, unless you’re someone who needs to wee a lot in the nights?

Neverseenbefore · 03/08/2023 10:28

Absolutely go for it. I’ve stayed in hotel rooms like that and it’s no problem. I actually prefer them to en suites.

Sirzy · 03/08/2023 10:30

Personally I wouldn’t. An en suite is a must for me. My partner wouldn’t be fussed but wouldn’t book it because he knows it matters to me. As such I think if your husband isn’t happy you should look elsewhere

UnctuousUnicorns · 03/08/2023 10:33

I would take it, but I would check with the owners if you get your own key or it has a combi lock or similar. I say this because many years ago I once stayed (on my own) at a guesthouse where mine was the only non ensuite bedroom, supposedly with my own "exclusive" bathroom along the corridor, but there were other guests staying in family rooms whose kids used my bathroom while the parents used their ensuite. Bloody cheek, now I think of it.

I've thought this too,DH spends ages in the bathroom on the loo and when we've stayed in hôtel rooms in the past the smells has drifted into the room;having a separate bathroom solves that issue.

I would have no issue with this as long as the bathroom is near your room. Crossing a courtyard or something then no but just crossing the hall I would have no issue

Youdoyoutoday · 03/08/2023 10:36

If the bathroom is exclusively yours then, yes, I'd book it. But I would email/ring first to double check as something like that would bother me.

BarrelOfOtters · 03/08/2023 10:37

We've done this and it's fine. Just remember to take PJs.. unlike my husband...who I caught half asleep about to head out the corridor like he was at home - all shiny and naked.

Duckingella · 03/08/2023 10:39

Glockamorra · 03/08/2023 10:27

I am as im on meds that make me pee a lot however it's no different to heading to the family bathroom at home as we haven't got an en suite either.

TrueScrumptious · 03/08/2023 10:40

I would prefer it. I don’t like en suites. A private bathroom close by down the corridor is perfect setup for me.

LividHot · 03/08/2023 10:40

Exclusive use is fine.

In my younger, cheaper days I had a hotel room in central London with a shower IN the room and a shared loo down the corridor. For the price I paid for one night it was fine.

Fairyliz · 03/08/2023 10:41

Go and let us all know where it is. I don’t mind crossing the corridor and I love a good value break.

mast0650 · 03/08/2023 10:41

Sounds lovely to me! If it's otherwise your best affordable option then I would definitely go with it.
