to still book our DS (16) as a 15 year old at a Premier Inn?

I’m probably going to get a flaming for this but here goes.

We only have DS, he can’t stay in a PI by himself until he’s 18. If we booked him in as an adult, as he’s classed as one now he’s 16, we’d have to pay for another room. So for now, while we can still just about get away with it, we book him in as a child stating he’s 15.

In one PI where we’ve stayed many times over the years, a couple of the regular staff are aware but they’re ok with this. He doesn’t get up for breakfast so doesn’t benefit from the ‘kids eat free’ deal.

AIBU to carry on doing this for as long as we can get away with it? Not that he’ll likely still want to come away with us in the next few years.

My personal opinion is that on the one hand they class 18+ as adults but want to charge a 16 year old adult prices.

That is so ridiculous! You quote a statement I made about a specific set of rules regarding a pandemic and try to make out I was somehow commenting on all rules ever.

cherry picking

Well done, you've clearly won the debate. I just wish I had your ability to argue a point so eloquently.

Comparing breakfast at a Premier Inn to Nazis and Jews. Wow!

Disgusting and completely irrelevant.
When someone shows their mindset and mentality by using that as their argument, one knows there is no point in continuing.

You carry on with your dishonesty then and justifying it to yourself.

But as PP said, despite how you justify to yourself, lying and stealing is behaviour lacking in honesty and integrity.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 03/08/2023 10:48

Some of us have good character and integrity.

It's not fascist to consider it wrong to cheat. If you don't like what an establishment offers, go elsewhere. It's a free market.

Oh come off it. People must think we were born yesterday if you think we believe you are all so perfect.

Nobody is. Stop the sanctimoniousness.

Everyone breaks rules sometime - yes, even you.

But some people are scrupulously honest. Others are frequently dishonest. I agree very few people if any have never been dishonest in their lives but there is still a spectrum and if you can’t even comprehend someone finding it wrong to cheat in a situation like this that suggests you are probably quite a long way down the dishonest end of the spectrum.

Exactly there is a spectrum so can the “we’re so honest” posters stop being so ridiculous about the ones that have said they would do this, but not other stuff.

Oldraver · 03/08/2023 16:42

We do it as ours is 17. It's stupid to book a separate room when there is a bed there

I would be happy to pay for his breakfast

My ds is 22 and still 15 for premier inn purposes 🤣🤣🤣

I'm wondering how long we can get away with it 🤣

Of course it isn’t playing to the rules, it’s cheating the system, a system whereas I see it is up for bending those rules, otherwise they would put measures in place where those rules can’t be broken. I’m ticking the 2 x adults 1 x child box on a PI booking form.

I’ve never been arrested, I’ve been caught once for speeding back in 1996. I’ve never robbed or mugged anyone, never cheated on a partner, I haven’t stolen anything (obviously there are those stating that I’m stealing from PI), I’m a good person, so don’t try and make out I’m an incredibly dishonest person, I’m not. In fact I once returned money to NatWest as they’d mistakenly given me too much - shock! The cashier was understandably relieved.
oh and I’m kind to animals, rescue lots 😊

But no, I won’t be giving PI an extra £300 for a room that’s not required. Last time I check 84% of posters agreed, that’s a high percentage of incredibly dishonest people, in your eyes at least.

Not obliged too, but I will and I won’t line the shareholders pockets with unnecessary in my opinion charges.

You and the others sayings it’s wrong can continue, but then saying what else are we immoral about, calling as grifting mingers etc, is not acceptable. Acting like we have no ability to gauge a situation is wrong,

We have @ZeldaWillTellYourFortune telling us about her cousin and his work, like we’re interested and that it’s like some sort of moral story that we must read and be warned!

I’ll repeat again, I’d do it to PI in a heart beat but not to a small independent.

This mentality of "I'm gonna shaft the MAN!" is just so foreign to me. Why is it (to you) OK to steal from some commercial entities and not others? How does one even justify that? Because they are profitable? That's the point of being in business. You are free to avoid their establishment if you don't like how they operate.

Banks are profitable, too. Do you think it's OK to rob them?

Businesses are free to set the terms of their product offering, to say what age cut-offs they deem full-price and which are eligible for special deals or consideration. If you don't like what they have offered, go elsewhere. Don't lie, cheat and steal.

And for others: "All you can eat" breakfast is for ... breakfast. Not to augment your lunch, dinner and snacktimes. How tacky to be stuffing pastries etc. into one's bag for later. If you aren't hungry at breakfast, don't eat. That doesn't give you the right to stock up for future needs.

WagonWheel1234 · 03/08/2023 17:14

We do this! We booked our DD into her own room when she turned 16. I chatted to the receptionist about it when we checked in and she said "oh gosh don't do that - you mustn't pay for an extra room" and gave her a free breakfast to compensate 😀
Since then we've always booked her in with us as a 15yo but we pay for her breakfast.

So many people commenting about how morally wrong this is without actually realising what it's like to work for the big chain hotels.

My staff are paid pittance and expected to turn a room around in 18 minutes or get performance managed. Then there's the question of the hotels moral compass when they rack the price up to over £500 a night when an event is on in the area.

It's all about making money and you only have to look on websites like indeed or glassdoor to see the reviews from people working there. Hotels don't care about staff or customers just 💰

OP just book and do it and sleep soundly just like the CEOs do when they are ripping people off.

Hahaha! Yes - evil! The thing is, if it was a little independent place, there'd be a phone number and you could discuss with a human being and be honest but with PI it's all online so you just have to make it work within their system.
We always make up for it by spending loads in the bar 😀

uncomfortablydumb53 · 03/08/2023 17:25

I definitely would
Just like I used to say my 4 year old DS was 3 to get into an attraction... until the little sod piped up with " I'm not 3,I'm 4"

Yes, just like us! 😃😆

We know that they’re strict on last orders so after a day of sightseeing, usually make sure we’re back for drinks at the bar!

How exactly are they "ripping people off." Please give details.

Supply and demand drives our economic markets. Of course a hotel room on a date coinciding with a major festival or other event is going to be more expensive, because there is greater demand. That's how the world works.

Low-skill people are paid less than high-skill people because there is a greater supply of low-skill people. How many of you pay your cleaners 100 quid a day?

Thank you for posting this.

Many times the lovely London PI we usually book with has had staff running around like headless chickens as there’s just not enough of them.

We always give them a glowing review though, as it’s not their fault that they are understaffed and undervalued. Despite this, they often get left bad reviews when it’s not of their making.

I won’t lose sleep, just like the CEO.

It's very wrong to cheat a company just because you disapprove of the way they do business.

The honest way to express your disapproval is to take your custom elsewhere.

I pay my cleaner £15 per hour, if she works for me 8 hours a day, that’s £120!

I’ve pointed out how many times the reasons I think they’re dishonest!

I don’t however name call people, like you do, which I find abhorrent and I dread to think what your children call people that say or do something they don’t agree with. You need to address that!

Onelifeonly · 03/08/2023 17:45

You have reminded me that in France once we had a stop overnight on a long journey. We had pre-booked a room - only 3 people were allowed in one room (very cheap place) with double bed plus one bunk above. We got there late at night and took both our kids in (one short enough to be below the level of the check-in desk!) So there were 4 of us. They probably noticed but didn't care.

I have not directed a single "name" to anyone on this thread. Stop lying about that.
