Costa using Pride image of girl with breasts removed to support trans?

"Costa Coffee was today accused of glamourising 'complex and dangerous surgery' by covering a van with a cartoon image featuring mastectomy scars.
The UK's largest coffee chain defended its use of the image to promote 'inclusivity and diversity' but was branded 'crass and irresponsible' and 'absolutely bonkers' – and there were calls for a boycott of the company on social media.
The image, depicting an androgynous-looking character wearing long shorts with scars below each nipple, is taken from a mural designed by the chain for Brighton and Hove Pride last year."

I find the attempt to 'normalise' the removal of perfectly healthy breasts because someone feels more masculine is wrong. AIBU

Does anybody have an email for the UK CEO of Costa or similar?

Lets all of us who have had our breasts removed because of cancer send him images of real life scars, and details of the resulting years of pain and disability

@ArabeIIaScott are you actually trying to say that it’s a reasonable thing to do?

I know that @ArabeIIaScott can speak for herself, but she has been a stalwart defender of women's rights for many years.

I would be prepared to bet a significant sum of money, that she has quoted the immoral Helen Webberly, to bring the vile doctors words to a wider audience.

gogomoto · 01/08/2023 09:57

@DisquietintheRanks

Not sure it's rare as much as there's a really long waiting list. We have a relative awaiting surgery and been waiting 6 years

Tryingmuchharder · 01/08/2023 09:58

Dr Webberley was struck off and then appealed and won her appeal so practices again. She does however have a previous conviction in 2018 which stood for running an independent medical agency without registration!

The judge who overruled her being struck off said:

""The tribunal found that suspension was necessary to protect the public as the appellant did not have insight into her failings," he said.
Mr Justice Jay said he had "concerns" about "certain aspects" of Dr Webberley's "practice" in relation to Patient C - including a "failure to have a face-to-face consultation on the issue of fertility".
But he added: "It is far from clear to me that what did take place should be strongly criticised."
The judge went on: "The sole focus of this appeal has been the quality of the appellant's clinical practice in relation to one patient, Patient C.
"This appeal does not raise any wider issues about the wisdom or otherwise of administering puberty blockers to the younger age group who wish to undergo interventions for gender reassignment with full parental agreement."

The case was just about one patient. She continues to administer puberty blockers to young people. The judge didn't look into whether it was wise or not to give puberty blockers to young people so the doctor continues to make lots of money from doing so. Her husband has been struck off though.

The myth of suicide prevention by offering body changing practices to try to become the sex you wish to be. Selling the fake copy version.

What they forget to tell you is that suicide is high in people that have 'transitioned'.... so if you think you are saving your son or daughter by getting the puberty blockers or helping with surgery then think again

"Ten to 15 years after surgical reassignment, the suicide rate of those who had undergone sex-reassignment surgery rose to 20 times that of comparable peers." 😢

There’s plenty of coffee shops in the world. Sadly I won’t be going to Costa anymore because picturing breast scars makes me feel not at all hungry.

MagpiePi · 01/08/2023 10:06

It's not just chopping off healthy breasts though, it is accompanied by wrong sex hormones which cause all kinds of loong term and irreversible damage.

Tryingmuchharder · 01/08/2023 10:06

I have to repeat this since it may save someone's life.

Emailing CEO will do nothing if the email is closely followed by purchase of costa coffee.

Indeed it is and to parents who think they are supporting their teens when they help them down this affirmation road

This is the response I have just submitted through their website complaints

Disgusted, absolutely sickened, horrified beyond words at portrayal of mastectomy scars on advert. I have had a double mastectomy because of cancer - my scars are twisted, swollen and painful and will be for life - how dare you display this as neat, tidy, and desirable. Soooo intrusive, a vile vile invasion of privacy and utterly false. I will never frequent a shop which advertises by fantasising about my scars and disabilities. Lost my custom for good, my daughter is crying over this foulness

Tryingmuchharder · 01/08/2023 10:07

Young people's brains are not fully developed until around 25 years old so imagine making such decisions that are irreversible so young.

I could not care less. If someone wants to chop off their boobs, it's up to them. People are free to do whatever body modifications they like to themselves. If they regret it later, that's their problem.

ArabeIIaScott · 01/08/2023 10:09

People? You mean 16 year old girls?

'Fifty-one teenagers aged 16 and 17 who were born as females were sent to hospitals in England to undergo further assessment for “specialist chest reconstruction” over the past six years, The Telegraph reported. In theory, those as young as 17 can undergo the procedure, and children aged 16 have been “referred for assessment for surgery”.

Meh. I had a baby when I was 18. That's also a pretty irreversible decision.

I have to say your honesty is refreshing.

Somanycats · 01/08/2023 10:12

We used to lobotomize people suffering poor mental health. Now we cut their breasts off. I should imagine both are equally successful.

FrancescaContini · 01/08/2023 10:12

It’s abhorrent, disgraceful, stomach turning. They’re glamorising a major surgical procedure in the name of promoting their equally stomach-turning coffee. How does that image make women who’ve been through treatment for breast cancer feel?

Never go to CostaLot anyway as their cafes are always filthy and everything they serve is overpriced junk but I will be spreading the word amongst my family and friends. 🤮
