Ok, IABU for putting this here. But it is driving me absolutely wild.

Does anyone recognise this description of a book, and I apologise it's probably very haphazard. I'm trying to recall a book I read over 20 years ago.

Points I remember

1. It starts with a young boy and a young girl. Not related. Friends but not friends.

1. She lives with her aunt who is the matriarch of the family.

1. The "uncles" visit occasionally (perhaps?)

1. She walks a maze

1. Turns out the maze is also in her body and she as an adult follows the maze around her body, focussing light onto the "blockages"

1. As adults her and the boy walk these mazes together

1. The aunt turns into some kind of spider?

1. The house rises out the hill.

Or did I make this story up?! Please, I am begging you, help
