If you have endometriosis with bowel adhesions, what are your symptoms?

I'm starting to get worried something is going on in that region. Previously diagnosed with adenomyosis, but current doctor says she can't see any on ultrasound. Never had a diagnostic lap or mri.

Sorry if tmi but sometimes after I go to the loo I get really weird discomfort after that's almost like period cramping in the front of my abdomen? As well as pronounced heaviness in the pelvic area? I don't know how a normal bowel movement could cause those?

Does this sound familiar to anyone if you have endo with bowel involvement?

My mum died of ovarian cancer so obviously that is also at the back of my mind. Gynaecology issues are fucking awful.

Oh this sounds awful. No experience of adenomyosis but I had bowel adhesions and a tethered rectum (?). Main symptoms were excruciating spasms in bum after/during PIV sex and sometimes after going to the loo (sorry if tmi!)

I really hope you get some.answers, it sounds awful.

How are you doing now @scaredsick ? Did you have surgery? I hope you are much improved!

I had excision which was really helpful, but it came back quite quickly - this time on my ovaries. They wouldn't treat it this time as I wanted to have a child, so they advised getting fertility treatment first and then returning after for excision so as not to endanger my ovaries. I'm pregnant and the symptoms have really eased, terrified they'll come back after the baby comes.

I hate to ask, but is your gynae male? My first gynae was and he was a bag of shit, so I complained and asked for a second opinion which got me a diagnostic lap and generally very good treatment. If you have specific concerns or ideas about treatment, don't let your gynae shout you down, especially given your family history. I'm so sorry you lost your mum xxx

Hi OP,

I have endometriosis and adenomyosis, along with some other similar health issues. My ‘issues’ were diagnosed during ultrasounds and then confirmed via MRI.

I have had horrific pain my entire life - when I was a late teen I was sent for scans to look check for signs of endo/adenomyosis and the scanner said they couldn’t see a thing. I was told to just get on with the pain as there was nothing wrong.

Then during pregnancy I had a whole host of awful problems and the first scan I had to have at 6 weeks, the doctor (and every doctor we saw since then) commented on how obvious it was that there were issues. So one doctor saying they can’t see anything calls for a second opinion I think, and really you need proper diagnostics.

I take a host of medications and have had various minor surgeries over the years to help with pain. I also take the mini pill every day so I shouldn’t technically get periods anymore.
That being said, I do bleed through the pill (though not full periods) and instead get what I call “inside periods”. These are similar to what you describe above - the internal pain of a period when I’m not actually on. I also find it is heightened after going to the toilet.

So I can relate to the pain and feelings you are describing, but I’m not a doctor and you really need to speak to a specialist I think and push for diagnostics. Good luck.

Hi, I don't have endometriosis, so I can't comment on that. However I do suspect I have bowel adhesions.
Do you have any other symptoms?
Since my second section I have pain in my pelvic area. My lower right side is worse, I get pulling pain and feel as if my insides are attached. If I sneeze, twist or get up too quickly I get a stabbing pain in the lower right side. I also get pain in this area during sex. With regards to my bowel...I feel like I can't empty my bowel properly, feel full and heavy and get terrible bloating and pain, I also need to wee more during flare ups. It's awful!
Have you been officially diagnosed with adhesions?

The trouble with endometriosis is that the symptoms can really vary from person to person. I’ve recently been told I have stage 4 endo with bowel adhesions but I have no symptoms (it was picked up when carrying out scans for something else) so it’s hard to tell what symptoms you ‘should’ have.

DickingAboutWithAubergines · 30/07/2023 22:13

I had stage 4 deep infiltrating endometriosis and also adenomyosis. I had a hysterectomy, last year during which they shaved my bowel of endo - I had no idea it was on my bowel until they told me after surgery. I didn't get the severe pain that you often hear but I was always constipated.

Eileenb13 · 02/10/2024 11:35

@DickingAboutWithAubergines how was your recovery? What type of hysterectomy you have?

I have the same as you they know it's on the bowel too.

Scared! Should be having hysterectomy in next 6 weeks.

Got 2 kids 11 and 6, and widow at 41.
