Sexist bathrooms

Bear with me.
Bathroom showroom man is insistent that bathroom mirror must go above sink. I know this is where they usually go. But why? Who does this suit? Men who want to shave and drop hair clippings in the sink? What about women? Specifically, short women. I'm of an age where I need to get close to a mirror. Really close. I can't do eye makeup from the distance over a sink. Nor can I pluck eyebrows. Nor apply wax to underarms. I can't lean over the sink to get closer (because I'm short). Actually, I don't really want to watch myself brushing my teeth. AIBU to want the mirror somewhere else, where I can actually use it?!

I agree. Hotel rooms/bathrooms are often way more suited to men too. I've just helped DP design a principle bathroom/bedroom for a house he is doing up, the woman buying it will thank me Grin

Just smile, thank the man for his opinion and then tell him you'll be putting the mirror where you want it. Our bathroom sink is under a window so no option for a mirror there anyway but if someone was trying to insist I'd just say no.

I have a small free standing mirror in front of the sink, for flossing and tooth brushing, but a bigger mirror on the wall where I can get up close for those chin hairs 🤣

😁
Ours is too atm, but bathroom man wants us to move it 90 degrees so the mirror can go above 🙄

It’s infuriating how many hotel rooms don’t have a power socket next to the mirror so you can blow dry/straighten your hair.

DappledThings · 30/07/2023 17:35

It's never crossed my mind to put the mirror anywhere else. But I only use it for a quick glance to make sure I've wiped away all the toothpaste.

I don't put make-up on but on the rare occasions I have I don't recall ever thinking the mirror was too far away. And surely you do want the sink there when you are to catch any stray bits of powder and wotnot to make cleaning easier.

Bit of a stretch to make this a sexist thing.

fireflyloo · 30/07/2023 17:35

Just get two mirrors. I like the look of a mirror above the sink regardless of its functionality. I have one of those extending mirrors that comes off the wall that dh and I use when we need it.

HedgesNotFences · 30/07/2023 17:37

Above the sink suits me. I am a woman.
Where else would it go. Above the loo?

RunningUpThatBuilding · 30/07/2023 17:37

It’s genuinely never occurred to me to do my makeup in the bathroom.

I always do it in my bedroom as I have a comfy chair and a dressing table with all my supplies and hair drier etc.

Whataretalkingabout · 30/07/2023 17:39

Can't you have several mirrors?
