Bitchy woman at work

holamamma · 30/07/2023 12:57

I have this colleague who is well known for being a bit of a bitch. Constantly slagging off other workers, then licking up to them at another stage, couldn't trust her at all. The other day I was driving to work and I overtook her on the dual carriageway, was probably doing 70 mph maybe a bit more but nothing too bad at all. Got to work and when we were in the kitchen she's talking really loudly that there are speed cameras and it's a good job she always drives within the limit etc. Totally for my benefit and I think to make me worry. Anyway 3 weeks have passed and still no ticket so I'm pretty sure she was lying and just a cow. AIBU here or do you think I'm overthinking it .

You're overthinking.

AmbleInAnnBoleyn · 30/07/2023 13:14

tbh if you didn't drive over the speed limit you wouldn't have to worry about getting a ticket, so that one is on you.

You obviously don't like her, so see if you can arrange opposite shifts going forward.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 30/07/2023 13:21

Ignore, she wants a reaction. Don't give it to her.

BeaumontLivingston · 30/07/2023 14:22

I used to love this scenario when I worked in offices. Happened a good few times. I was just very lovely and chatty to the person and each time we ended up getting on.

I just find it so funny that people are like that, it doesn't bother me at all that they're being horrible so I can be genuinely nice, not sarcastic at all, just nice, and they eventually become visibly freaked out and feel awful about themselves then start being really nice to me.

WhenIWasAFieldMyself · 30/07/2023 14:26

Good job you didn't kill anybody by breaking the speed limit eh?

BurntWindowcleaner · 30/07/2023 14:29

Way overthinking. What is it you think she’s “‘lying’ about — the existence of speed cameras? Why is she being a ‘cow’ for suggesting breaking the speed limit is likely to land you in trouble?

ThatDayIBecameFree · 30/07/2023 14:30

What she's saying has no bearing on whether you got caught speeding, not sure why you've given this any headspace whatsoever.

Gazelda · 30/07/2023 14:32

So you were doing 70. Maybe a bit more. But she's being a bitch for making you worry? Nah.

You're over thinking this.

BlastedIce · 30/07/2023 14:41

Surely if you e driven down the road you’re aware of speed cameras or not?

Or do you drive fast with your eyes closed as well?

if she’s stopped you speeding, then she’s done a good thing?

what was the road limit?

I can’t believe you’re annoyed at her for your speeding.

OnAWobblyFence · 30/07/2023 15:00

The irony is totally lost on you, isn’t it, OP? You say this woman is “slagging people off “ at your work place. Yet you are “slagging her off on a public forum on the Internet for the whole world to see. You have no class.

And if you overtook me doing “70 or a bit more” on the way to work I’d probably have something to say about it too. Perhaps when you’ve lost a family member to a car accident like I have then you’ll understand.

TwelfthGiraffe · 30/07/2023 15:08

Overthinking. I wouldn’t have given it a minute of headspace.

GoodChat · 30/07/2023 15:31

Yeah this one's on you. Dont speed if you don't want people to judge you for it.

Virginsexonthebeachplease · 30/07/2023 15:34

What's all the background got to do with the fact that you were speeding and she said something about it? It sounds like you were in the wrong tbh and that's why you were worried!

notol · 30/07/2023 15:34

God I hate the word "bitch", it really turns my stomach. Partly because it's so sexist, there is no male equivalent.

I agree!

GolgafrinchamB · 30/07/2023 15:36

You post this and she's the bitchy one?

  • Constantly slagging off other workers, then licking up to them at another stage
  • I'm pretty sure she was lying and just a cow

Pot, kettle etc.

user1477391263 · 31/07/2023 10:05

Were you speeding? She has the right to comment, and you’re uncomfortable because you know what you did was inappropriate.

Prick. As in, "He's such a prick!"

5128gap · 31/07/2023 10:27

She slags off other people, you break the speed limit and refer to women you don't like as animals. I'm glad I don't work with either of you tbh. No one's perfect and she probably doesn't like your behaviour any more than you like hers. Just avoid each other.
I assume you're worried she's reported you for speeding? Won't matter either way as it's the camara evidence that would convict you or not, not a witness statement.

No class.Blush
It is an an anonymous forum to get advice.

Not sure it's comparable.

Obviously you shouldn't speed but she did sound a bit on her high horse.

Hate the word Bitch too.

CalistoNoSolo · 31/07/2023 10:54

Unless otherwise signposted, 70 in a dual carriageway is the legal limit so doing 70 or 75 isn't a big deal at all. If you blew past her at 80+ she may have a point. She sounds horrible, can't stand people like her. Just ignore her, pull her up on her nastiness every time, or as a PP suggested, kill her with kindness.

notol · 31/07/2023 11:37

I can't see how to quote but in my opinion and experience, "he's a prick" does not have anywhere near the same meaning or resonance. There's a level of distain in it for sure, but it's not quite the equivalent.
