To not let DS do this extra curricular activity?

DS wants to start diving (the one where you dive off a diving board) and our closest pool with diving boards is 40 miles away. He's really upset because I have been trying to encourage him to find something he would be interested in (has shown very little interest in anything active) and he finally did and I've said no! I do feel mean but that's very far isn't it? Do any of your DC do activities that far out? I've suggested swimming or gymnastics as alternatives and he doesn't want to Confused

I would be thrilled if my DD's hobby involved only a 40 miles drive once a week.

Personally I don't see it as a difficult thing to get him to - you'll be indoors with a loo and probably a cafe or at least a coffee machine. You could be driving 3 hours to stand in a field in all weathers .....

I'd just take him. But I drive my Foster son 39 miles to college each morning, drive the 39 miles back home then drive the 39 miles to collect him in the afternoon then drive the 39 miles back home. So 156 miles Monday to Friday. Plus drive him 20 miles each way for sports training 4 evenings a week.

You don't go from zero to daily swimming club in one go. It would start out as a couple of times a week. I would stick a weekly trampolining lesson in with that.

Yep so OP gets an extra few months/years before DS is ready to do diving..

Win win

😀 the voice of experience.

Diving could lead to exciting weekends away in citybreak style tours.
