Delivery arrived but never ordered

4 cases of wine have been left on our doorstep- which we have never ordered! It's our address on the boxes but company name. We have lived in the house for 15 years! I emailed the company 3 times- details on the box. Zero response. I called them twice to say surely someone is waiting for their order. Said very offhand they would send a courier on Friday to collect. No one came!
AIBU to keep the wine? I have tried many times to get in touch with them. They clearly don't care at all!

Party round at mine !

Are you sure it isn't a gift someone has sent?

CornishPixiePasties · 30/07/2023 10:56

How long ago was the wine delivered? There are legal guidelines for this. Was it prepaid? And by whom, in that case!

Chickychoccyegg · 30/07/2023 10:57

Haha, as tempting as it would be, I think I'd wait a bit longer incase someone comes to pick them up, or until you manage to speak to someone from the company.
No need to wait toooooo long though 😉

belge2 · 30/07/2023 11:09

Definitely not a gift from someone we know. I will wait another week or 2 but I am not bothering to make contact again with the company. I am sure someone has paid for it and is chasing their order but I have done my bit by trying to get in touch with the wine company !

Spoke to a lawyer friend and she said it's case of abandonment and as I have made good efforts to try to return it, the company haven't got a leg to stand on!

What time shall we come round then?

Totaly · 30/07/2023 11:15

I’ll bring nibbles!

barbarahunter · 30/07/2023 11:17

This couldn't be part of a scam on your identity/address could it? Although I've never heard of wine being used...

Hummingbird89 · 30/07/2023 11:17

Ha! What a stroke of luck 😄 I’d give it neither week in case the owner turns up to claim…then bottoms up. Enjoy!

SavvyMaria · 30/07/2023 11:17

Lucky you!

Drink the evidence and they won't be able to get you into any trouble.

Hawkins0001 · 30/07/2023 11:17

Hold the order to be on the safe side for now.

romdowa · 30/07/2023 11:20

Enjoy the wine and if they get in contact tell them you left it outside for them on Friday and it wasn't there when you got back and you presumed they collected it.

Hadalifeonce · 30/07/2023 11:20

I would send one last message to say they have until xx date maybe a week, to collect the delivery. I'd they fail to do that you will have considered them to have abandoned it, and will dispose of it.

Walkinginthesand · 30/07/2023 11:35

If the customer who placed the order gets in touch with the company that supplied the wine to complain they haven't received their order, the company won't try to track down the original shipment but will ship a new consignment.

I once received unordered a box of hair and bath products from a high street chemist. Couldn't face trying to explain to their customer service so made good use of them. Never heard anything further and as a result was introduced to an excellent hair treatment.

So I would enjoy your windfall- cheers!

caringcarer · 30/07/2023 11:40

Damn, never get this sort of luck.

Bayleaf25 · 30/07/2023 11:48

If it’s alcohol they shouldn’t have left it without a signature (potentially proof of age).

I’d definitely keep it at this point, you’ve made attempts to rectify the situation. Maybe wait another week before drinking it all just in case someone gets in touch. What luck!

belge2 · 30/07/2023 13:20

@caringcarer believe me, neither do I !! I once won a village raffle prize about 10 years ago!!
