For me it’s BBC’s 1995 Pride and Prejudice. Absolute perfection, I wouldn’t change a thing!

Firefly.

But only because it's so short it never had a chance to have a bad episode. Buffy was the better series over all, the highs were so much higher, but when you do 130ish episodes you're always going to get the occasional stinker. Firefly is just 14 episodes of perfection. Not a single step wrong.

I thought about my answer before opening the thread and thought it had to be BBC's Pride and prejudice! I also agree about Miss Marple with Joan Hickson and have to add Poirot with David Suchet. I loved Dinner ladies too.

the good wife…this got me through my divorce!

HumphreyCobblers · 28/07/2023 19:26

Detectorists.

It is beautifully conceived, written and acted. I would say elegiac, moving and funny. Not tame or twee in the slightest.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 28/07/2023 19:26

Another vote for Dopesick

ChristmasFluff · 28/07/2023 19:27

Raffles - 1970s serries with Anthony Valentine. I agree with loads already mentioned, but this would be my Desert Island Series. So comforting, so clever, so full of heart, such great acting and plotting.

And a much happier ending than the EW Horning stories, thank goodness.

Also, for pure kitch, UFO - the Gerry Anderson series. Another brilliant 1970s series, and I just love every minute of it. Irrational, nonsensical, but utterly wonderful. And there's the small matter of Paul Foster, my childhood crush.

@Hawkins0001 season 2 of dark angel was so bad but I looooved that show. I do wish I'd never read the bad stuff about the off screen relationship though.

What happened off, screen?
I always wondered what stage 3 of manticore would be?
I can sorta understand the point about season 2 especially some of the missing main characters
