Best Charity / Second-hand Shop Finds

The other thread on charity shops and whether they’re too expensive nowadays has got me thinking about bargains. What’s been your best charity / second-hand shop find? Post pics if you want to.

For me it was two brand new leather sofas. They were £140. The shop said they weren’t selling as everyone that came in wanted a corner sofa. They’d reduced the price from about £900 and still nobody wanted them. They were about to throw them in the skip and then I found them. They’re amazing and so comfortable, like sitting on a cloud. They’ve lasted a good few years now and sitting on them still feels like I bought them yesterday.

  • A fully-lined velvet blazer for £4
  • A cashmere jumper for £8
  • An absolutely beautiful vintage, tailor-made pure wool belted winter coat, I think from the late 1960s, which was £10

I bought a lovely wooden well preserved chest of drawers from the charity shop next door. it is in marvellous condition and has lasted a lot longer than any of the flat pack versions I had over the years and it only cost £40

Hi - I have been able to find not one but 2 different items of Tiffany jewellery which astounded me as one boxed with care card etc one a limited edition bracelet - mad !!! years of browsing and looking for treasures has paid off I haven’t really bought brand new clothing for years - love that other peoples unloved things become loved again and cherished worn and enjoyed

I found a picture for £1.50 that is potentially worth £200-300! Waiting to get it valued 👍

I got a beautiful cream Le Creuset whistling kettle for £8. Perfect condition. They're £98 in John Lewis.

Thanks for starting this thread. It's nice to hear positive things about them for a change!

A chiffon top for £3.
A red St Michael's velvet blazer for £5.
A pair of Levi's for less than £5.
A vintage Stratton compact mirror for £3.
Some Willow plates and bowls from 99p to £1.49 per item.
Denby pasta bowl for £1.49.

I love a charity shop bargain.

Not a financial bargain but my dd was moving into her first flat and found an unusual art deco vase that she really liked only about £4 but she didn't buy it as the flat sale was taking forever and we were running out of room to store stuff. anyway after she'd moved DH and I found the exact same vase in another charity shop 40 miles away for £3 so we bought it and she was thrilled.

Ooh that reminds me of the Tiffany lamp I bought for £20. I’d been looking for one for ages and they’re always so expensive. They’re gorgeous and it takes pride of place on my desk. It looks exactly like this one:

Found a vintage 1970s wrangler denim jacket in pristine condition for £1.99 in 1992. Got a good few years wear out of it myself and now DD is rocking it - still looks great if slightly battered nowadays.

£1 brooch - hallmarked as gold, inlaid with pearls and moissanite. Not had it valued, definitely keeping it.

£1 choker necklace - made by Givenchy. Wore for a while, left in cupboard for years. Just sold it for £38.

Monsoon raincoat for £3

Walked to town one afternoon and said to DH I'd like to buy the matching fleece insert to my highly specific coat for winter as had lost mine and they were £85 online so might be asking for it for Xmas. Only found one in the charity shop 20mins later for £3! He had to pick something else for Xmas 😂😂
