to ask if I should tip for a one-off clean?

Cleaner here atm doing a one-off clean, pretty much a deep clean as we'd let the house go a bit due to various factors.

I know she's here to clean, but I feel a bit bad about how grotty the place is, I'm sure it must be a lot less pleasant cleaning it than 6 hours of hoovering/dusting/wiping etc would be in a house where the housework's been better kept on top of.

Is tipping cleaners a thing in this kind of situation? I feel like I want to give her a little something extra but I don't want to make an idiot of myself if this isn't usually a thing...

I'm a cleaner! I regularly get tips for one off cleans or especially difficult jobs. It's definitely appreciated!

Good to know. Out of interest, do people tend to tip a percentage of the overall cost?

Usually £5 or £10. The £10 tips are usually for bills over £100.

Thanks. I tipped her a tenner which she seemed very pleased with, but I felt it was warranted given she'd cleaned the oven which had got embarrassingly grotty. 😄

I’m a cleaner. I never get tips. I’d love them though.
I think it’s because all our payments are collected by direct debit so there is never any cash passed between us
