Currently waiting for my app for a lump Iv found in my armpit. I’m hoping it’s nothing but still slightly worried as anyone would be.

Does anyone who knows the process know how long it takes to get the results after the ultrasound?

Im hoping instantly but I’m guessing not.

One stop shop in Herts, Op.

Chat/examination with doctor, immediately conveying whether they think there is an issue or not. Next mammogram and ultrasound. Finally a consultation with the original doctor to talk about findings.

Take a book and a fully charged phone. The whole thing can last for a good few hours.

Easier said than done but try not to worry too much. I am 47 and have been twice with lumps and a third time with inflammation. Outcome: hormonal cysts and infection.

Best wishes

I've been called back twice after mammogram and in both cases I was told immediately after the ultrasound (at the same appointment) what the outcome was. (In my case on those occasions cysts that were drained there and then).

I had no idea it would/could take so long! I was expecting a quick ultrasound and a off you go with a phone call.

Il make sure I take some supplies with me and a book.

Handy to also let my childcare know I won’t be back within an hour either!

im early 30s but my auntie had Breast cancer in her late 20s and my mum at 49.

Fingers crossed it’s a cyst!

Thank you. Would be handy if everything was done in one go.

One stop shop here in sussex too, I was so impressed. Nurse first who examined me, then mammogram which wasn't clear then ultrasound which they told me straight away looked normal. Then got a letter a few days later to confirm and discharge me. It was so simple and over within an hour or so, it wasn't busy when I was there though so I imagine it could take longer if busy.

OneInEight · 28/07/2023 12:34

The doctor who did my ultrasound pretty much told me there and then it was cancer. Ok he used the word suspicious but there was pretty much no doubt. Had a biopsy done the same day which took a week to come back.

BarnabyTheBearAndSkippy · 28/07/2023 12:35

Good luck OP. I don’t have experience but am just starting a two week wait re ovarian cancer with a CA125 of 40. I can sympathise with what you are feeling right now. I know many survivors of breast cancer so even if it does turn out to be that, there are lots of reasons to stay hopeful. X

My auntie survived breast cancer, her friend who unbelievably had cancer at the same time at the same age (late 20s) didn’t.
She also had to have a full hysterectomy later in life too due to cancer. Survived both!

My mother also survived. Thank god.

The only person that knows I have to go to the clinic is my OH. I can’t tell my parents. My dad is a worrier and would be up every night unable to sleep until I have the app!

Good luck to you also!

It was one stop shop for me as well, as initial discussion was with my ob/gyn (I[m in Germany, we see those directly) with an ultrasound done in-office.
I was referred urgently to a screening centre, had the mammogram, then another ultrasound, then discussion on when I wanted to come for my biopsy.

It all went very fast and now I am 2 years clear after Stage 2A IBC following surgery and radio (no chemo).

When you go for your screening, leave off any body lotion, sunscreen or deo - at least that is the advice here. Yes to having a power bank or charger with you.
And please definitely mention your family history (including the ages) as you may qualify for genetic screening.

Good luck!! 🍀

In Buckinghamshire went for the ultrasound and then same day had a biopsy. They told me they suspected fibroadenoma from the ultrasound but needed to confirm no malignancy with the biopsy. Had to wait two weeks for the biopsy results which showed they were correct it was a fibroadenoma which is harmless. I was terrified during the wait.

In total from my GP appointment it was just over four weeks until I had the results.

I’d love this. Good news or bad news I’d rather be told.

Hope everything went/is going well with any treatment.

I think it depends on where you are. I’ve been referred twice for what turned out to be cysts. Both times I was seen in under a week, examined by a doc, ultrasound there and then and cysts drained immediately. In and out in 30-45 min both times. I’m in Glasgow.

BeeLievable · 28/07/2023 12:52

They will tell you with the ultrasound what they suspect. With mine they told me it looked harmless but they needed the biopsy to be 100% sure.

BeeLievable · 28/07/2023 12:53

Did your GP give you any indication of what they thought?

Whirlywiccan · 28/07/2023 12:56

I went a few years ago in stafford. I was around 36 at the time but after noticing a strange coloured patch on my left breast my GP sent me to the breast clinic that week.

Took a few hours; waited a while then had an ultrasound, the lady doing the scan told me everything looked okay to her, then I waited another hour or so to see the consultant who examined me and explained the results of the ultrasound. Confirmed nothing to worry about within 3 hours I think it was.

Ponoka7 · 28/07/2023 12:59

I was told on the day, twice. Mine were usual lumps common in women who were approaching peri menopause, who've breastfed. Some women were held back because their's didn't give a clear diagnosis, so they needed more investigation. It happened to a friend and she got her results within five days. A friend of my DD had her results two days later, they do like to discharge, or start treatment asap.

Elisebev · 28/07/2023 13:05

Mine was also a one stop shop. I had found a lump just before Xmas. Went to the doctor who said he was referred. 7 long weeks later (still angry about that). I went for the appointment. Saw the oncologist who examined me. Send me downstairs for a mammogram and an ultrasound. I knew by the way they were acting during the tests that there was something wrong although they didn’t say anything. Went back up to the the oncologist who told me there and then that it was suspected cancer, unfortunately I found out a few weeks later that it had already progressed to stage 4 so although treatable it was incurable. 5 1/2 years on, I’m still on regular treatment. Recently started oral chemo after the cancer spread to the liver. Although I’m having to attend hospital every 3 weeks, I’m still keeping reasonably ok and working full time as well as doing most of what I was doing pre diagnosis

It’s bad timing my end really.
I actually went to the doctors about something else that was minor but irritating (twitchy eye for 6 months). In the same app I quickly mentioned I had a lump in my armpit and she said she would do a referral.
2 days after my app Iv gone on holiday for 10 nights (still here now!). They called me after a week and offered me an app for Wednesday just gone so would of been 8 days since I seen my gp but as I’m away Iv had to refuse and I’m going Monday…. Day after I’m back.

Never been on holiday before and wished I was at home instead!

Once, it was a one stop shop with mammogram, and ultrasound guided drainage of a cyst. Second time it was a physical exam, tests ordered which happened a week later. Biopsies taken them and a two week wait for results. It could be anything depending on your hospital, their procedures and who is on strike at the moment. Good luck, 6 out of 7 lumps turn out to be benign.

Liellacat · 28/07/2023 13:16

Hello! I am also awaiting my appointment it is the week after next. Also early 30s

I went for one breast lump and then found two. I can imagine you are as worried as i am right now. One of them is a little tender and quite large.

However it’s protocol for them to refer any breast lumps to the screening service to aim to get seen in two weeks. There are a range of issues which cause breast lumps, they have to make sure and rule the serious stuff out first.

I went a few years ago, when I found a lump in my armpit. I had lost lots of weight, they were lovely and once I had the scans they reassured me it was just my lymph node I wasn’t used to feeling with my previous weight and then they told me to eat more pies 😂 and I’m pretty sure they see loads of cases that are similar, along with a long list of issues where cancer isn’t a concern. Always better to get these things checked out. Wishing you all the best for your appointment!

Did your GP give you any indication of what they thought?

No, she examined my breasts and felt both my underarms… said she could feel the lump and put the referral in. That was it.

I did the 2ww for a lump near my armpit/top of breast about 3 months ago. I ended up getting an appointment at the hospital less than a week after referral. I was in the hospital for about 2 hrs all in.

First consultation at hospital was with a doctor who did an examination and said she thought it felt like a cyst/lumpy breast tissue but would send me for the scan to be sure (my GP when they referred me had been adament it wasn't a cyst and had actually panicked me quite a lot!).

Then went through for an ultrasound where they told me there and then that I did have cysts in my breast (14 in total, I hadn't even spotted the others when having a feel). I was then told I could just go straight home OR go back to see the doctor for a debrief. I told them I'd go straight home and free the doctor up and that was that. The main cyst that I had felt had burst the day before the appointment (it was huge and agony then the day before stopped hurting and got smaller), so they didn't offer to drain it for me as it was doing it on it's own. I was told though that had it not burst on its own they'd have drained it then and there.

Most of the time was just sat in two waiting rooms full of other women and their companions.

Hope all goes well. It was a horrible wait and in the end it was only a week long for me. x

I asked the GP about the genetics testing (only recently learned about it). She said to ask the breast clinic people so I will defo be bringing it up!
