When did watching telly get so complicated?

Bloody hell! I just want to watch some TV. Cue endless options and an inability to watch a show unless I follow 3 steps to create a profile and sign in, or become a subscriber to something by calling 150 from my fucking phone.

Don't even get me started on
the enormous delay to load any internet page, whilst the cookie consent page loads up.

Or the inability to read a news article, because it’s peppered with adverts and links to other random shite.

Is it just me??

I think it’s just you, I genuinely don’t find watching TV that difficult

Cas112 · 27/07/2023 22:48

So everytime you watch tele it's that difficult because tbh I really don't seem to struggle like you do. I just simply watch tele😂

CheshireDing · 27/07/2023 22:51

Well it sounds like a pain in the arse. I couldn’t work our last tv because you had to press one button on one thing, then another button on something else, then scroll, then blah, then shoot yourself in the head instead (and it all had to be done in the right order and because I didn’t watch much tv I would forget the order)

anyway OP I suggest you just get rid of the tv and watch Netflix and Amazon. Soooo much easier (and no adverts)

What are you trying to watch, some are worse than others when you first log in on a new TV, often you get a code but I tend to use an easy password just in case they don't. Nothing worse than trying to type in an Apple generated password on the telly.

Sparklesocks · 27/07/2023 22:57

I’ve signed up to the apps I watch TV on (iplayer, Netflix etc) so I don’t need to register for anything new thankfully, and the ones I’m subscribed to have auto login enabled so I can go straight in. I even have a Netflix button on the remote which is really handy, so I don’t find TV stressful in that way.

With unusable websites, I find that local newspaper ones are the worst culprits! Their ads always seem to overwhelm the browser, or you get stuff halfway through along the lines of ‘answer a survey question to continue reading this article! Do you like holidays?’ So I agree that is a pain.

WonkyBricks · 27/07/2023 22:58

I agree. We only have an aerial connection downstairs, so it's streaming only upstairs. Such a fucking PITA trying the watch things on demand. ITVx pisses me right off, having to put in a code every other week.

User16496743 · 27/07/2023 23:00

ITVx is particularly bad, the app on my iPad kept telling me to confirm my email address but never sent me an email, in the end I deleted and reinstalled the app.

I just watch Netflix now. Everything else is too hard. So many presses of so many buttons.

orangeyeahthatsright · 27/07/2023 23:07

Agree. I miss the days when you could just put it on and watch it. Mind you, I also miss the days when there were only four channels.

User16496743 · 27/07/2023 23:07

I don't know why you have to sign up to watch the normal channels on apps, you don't if you watch them through freeview

NotStayingIn · 27/07/2023 23:17

I find once you are logged into BBC iPlayer it's fab and works. ITVX is a right pain.

And I do know what you mean about so many adverts on the page of a news story you can barely read it. Again BBC News works fine as no ads. But some other sites (inc here) are so annoying. No - I don't want to see a video!!! What is it about sites constantly autoplaying you flipping videos.

Me too! Life was much simpler. There's too much choice now
