Stupid fears over HPV?

CandleRigg89 · 27/07/2023 09:44

I had a HPV positive smear four months after I gave birth in 2021. My follow up in 2022 was negative and I was returned to normal screening. I didn’t give it much thought - crazy toddler, back to work etc.

However this week my boy has a hoarse sounding voice, and is otherwise ok. But…I’ve started to worry about that HPV smear.

Could he have caught from me at birth? During breastfeeding (two years)? Could his hoarse voice be more sinister? I know HPV can cause throat cancers.

Or am I having a high anxiety week (work has been mad) and this is a silly, anxiety fuelled worry? I can’t tell anymore!

Sounds like your having an anxiety meltdown.... seriously, ( said kindly) come on what is stopping you from picking up a phone booking an appointment and saying to doctors ( and trust me I've said similar)
"This may sound bonkers but I'd like some reassurance please ... ( insert your post here )

The doc will either explain how your fears are impossible and bonkers or refer your son for further investigation

I'd put my money on the former but I'm not a doctor so don't rely on my opinion

Thank you! I’m trying to avoid reassurance seeking from the doctor as I find sometimes they don’t take you seriously if they find out you have anxieties.

I did briefly ask the nurse if breastfeeding was ok at my follow-up smear as it had just occurred to me that it may not be and she just laughed and said, of course it is. Trying to hold on to those in the moments of anxiety!

definitely in a bit of a spiral. Had a terrible week at work so far, husband has some kind of gastro upset, and son has been off food but otherwise the last week and developed a hoarse voice a few days ago, although has been eating like a horse again this morning. Probably just an anxiety spike

Hello, I found your post after searching for hoarse voice in children. My son has had a croaky voice for 2 weeks now - did your son's voice improve?
I also have health anxiety so trying not to panic!

@BA36 im so sorry I just seen this! Yes all resolved as predicted and I’m not getting anxiety help. Must have been a virus!

hope your son’s voice is back to normal?
