To wonder what these bites are?

My daughter keeps getting bitten by something overnight, no one else is affected. My partner is insisting that they are mosquito bites but she doesn’t sleep with her window open and the area isn’t notorious for mosquitoes, he’s also saying I shouldn’t be worried about it but it’s really bothering me! Does anyone recognise these bites as something else!?

Do you have pets ? Could it be in the bed ?

We have a cat and a dog so my first thought was fleas but they are treated regularly. They don’t ever go on her bed though!

Could it be spider?

Moomin2020 · 27/07/2023 07:51

I’m in the UK and as far as I’m aware it’s not a common bite here?! It’s been happening for about 3 nights now too!

My main concern is that it’s bedbugs. Is there a way to tell before I burn my house down? 😂

Oh really 😩 she said they are itchy but doesn’t actually seem to be scratching. She has a couple on the side of her head too. It’s driving me bonkers!!

Bed bugs ? Flea bites ?

ExtraOnions · 27/07/2023 08:03

Is it our old friend Molluscum contagiosum ?

Moomin2020 · 27/07/2023 08:04

Bed bugs are what I’m fearing most 😩 I’ve checked her bed for them and can’t see any evidence. Don’t even know where to start to get rid of them if it is?!

Bedbugs usually bite in a line.

I’d say your flea treatment isn’t working so well, and that’s the culprit.

LuvSmallDogs · 27/07/2023 08:08

If it were fleas, I doubt they'd be restricted to one person's bed, especially if the pets don't go in it. The classic flea infestation is when they colonise your carpets, and bite your ankles/lower legs as you walk along.

I am thinking bed bugs. Check if the sheets or mattress have any dark small spots. Any case I would rip all bed clothes off carefully and put into 90C cycle. Then take hoover and slowly hoover all edges, bed frame etc while checking u don't see anything. I would then spray white vinegar on the mattress, bed frame and probably surrounding the bed and monitor to see if i see anything.

That’s what they look like to me rather than bites

Are the bites definitely happening overnight? My son used to spend a lot of time in a part of the school field where it turned out there were loads of mosquitos. He would wake up the next day with loads of bites, as there's often a delay between the bite & the reaction.

Moomin2020 · 27/07/2023 08:19

It’s possible! She’s at nursery most days. They just don’t look like any mosquito bites I’ve ever had!

Thanks for the tips! I’ve done the stripping of the bed and hoovering today and didn’t see anything obvious 😬

Fleas don’t feel as overwhelming to sort as bedbugs 😅 so fingers crossed you’re right! We have been on holiday recently where they had 2 farm dogs so I’m wondering if we might’ve brought some unwelcome visitors home!!

Hmm, I’m not sure? To me they look very deliberate like bites and there’s no real cluster of them, I’ve never seen molluscum before though and maybe the google pictures are extreme versions?

Those look as if they’ve got blisters. On me, they’d be mosquitoes/midges. I’m covered at the moment from grass cutting at the weekend.

Flea bites tend to be in clusters.
