To expect a refund

In the US.

Ordered a slide for my 1 year old. He's had it about 2 months and used it a few times no problem.

Today I put him on the steps to climb up and one of the steps just snapped and he fell. Luckily I have him on a foam mat so didn't hurt himself too badly but cried from shock/a scratch.

Ordered from Amazon in May. They asked me why I didn't return it then (because it wasn't broken then?!) And told me the 'return window expired in June'.

They're being ridiculous right? I'm furious.

Yes they should refund. It's not fit for purpose.
