To wish there was a like button or heart button

This has probably been said already, so sorry if so and I've missed it.

But I often read posts where I just want to send a heart or like the post. Or I want to acknowledge someone who has quoted me with a reply.

AIBU to think it's time Mumsnet invested in a 'like' button or similar for posts?

OP posts:

Agree! That’s all ☺️

I would like to ❤️ posts

I'm not sure MNHQ have ever mentioned adding a like feature. I know there's a lot of opposition from users who think it would stop the flow of conversation, but it's less cluttered than a thread where people just agree with each other.

While we're requesting features, I wonder if there's any update on the edit function? Smile Justine mentioned they were hoping to add it for premium members way back in 2020, and there's still no sign of it.

Over the next little while we’ll look to add some extra features: things that people have requested regularly like editing, sorting posts by the OP, and reading offline.

You're correct it's been done to death here already. Many lengthy threads.

The key points against are that invariably it'll turn into a popularity contest by virtue of the numbers of 👍 or ❤️ applied th posts. It will shut down conversation & actually taking the time to engage with a post, even if you are just saying 'agree'.

For sure, it is tempting at times to wish for a like button of some kind. But the necessity to have to take time to type something is part of what makes MN a bit different & given the insanity & pile-ons already on many threads, you don't want to do anything to encourage it further.

Agree completely! Sometimes I just want to say I agree with a like but there's no option. Instead I have to reiterate what they've said by quoting and posting. Same goes for things I disagree with. There's needs to be a thumbs up and down button.

Me too! It's such a basic thing, it's hardly asking for the moon,is it?🙄

Even the basic functions of a forum seem a bit beyond MNHQ. We've only recently got the quote feature, and even then you have to quote the entire post. While other basic features like an edit button are still missing. Perhaps asking for the moon is more realistic. Grin
