Cleaner dunked sandwich press in water

She wanted to clean it and she washed it in the kitchen sink like you would wash a plate. I couldn't believe when I I saw it and she went on to reassure me she does it all the time at other customers houses and the piece of electrical is fine.

I told her that if it stops working I'll have to deduct it from her wage. AIBU? You wouldn't give the toaster a bath.

She's an excellent cleaner but could do with respecting boundaries a bit more. She'd previously water plants when I had just watered them and so some died, feed the cat, bin stuff that wasn't to be binned, ripped off a piece of wood from a floorboard and a few other things. I tell her after when something wasn't ok, but there is always something new and unexpected she does.
I'm always around and she never asks 'is it ok if...'.

See us Brits, we only use fried bread in a Saturday fried up. We aren't animals. 🤷🏼‍♀️

TRexTara · 26/07/2023 22:11

Oh and Op, you were right to let your cleaner go btw. Don't feel bad.

But right now we have more important issues to deal with. Like what is an American grilled cheese???

@Ourshoddyhouse stop being pedantic otherwise I will conclude that your cheese is also shite.,

TRexTara · 26/07/2023 22:28

Sorry that was to @Ourshoddyhouse

TRexTara · 26/07/2023 22:29

Oh you are pulling your own self up, so sorry. I've had a bottle of Shiraz.

Ourshoddyhouse · 26/07/2023 22:48

😂😂

Twatalert · 26/07/2023 23:00

It's probably liquid cheese from a squeezy bottle warmed up

Amazing, plus having the different plates are great. This is the one we have Salter EK2143 3-in-1 Snack Maker - Deep Fill Waffle Iron, Sandwich Panini Press & Toastie Maker, Interchangeable Non-Stick Plates, 900W, Indicator Lights, Automatic Temperature & Cool Touch Handle amzn.eu/d/7rlAgK7

We have that one too! It's AMAZING. I bought it during lockdown, and it's quite honestly one of the best things that ever happened to me & the DC. Removable plates = lifechanger.

(Sorry OP, but it's something I feel very strongly about)

Another thing I can never understand about these cleaner threads is that the OP always knows the intricate details of the cleaners life and all their problems. So then feels even more guilty about putting their fit down. Surely they are there to work not tell you their whole life history?

Some people pay 'cleaners' because they are lonely. See also gardeners. I know some who just sit and do the crossword with them.

It's also a ploy to befriend them so they leave them their house in their will (elderly vulnerable).

Or simply a ploy to do less work and not get sacked due ti middle class guilt

American grilled cheese..

Cheap white bread, spread one side of each slice with mayo or butter, but usually mayo.

Build a sandwich, mayo side out, using some sort of processed cheddar as Americans do not have real cheddar, as any fule kno. (But not spray/squeezy cheese sauce, thats wrong it'd all melt out, and not typically 'burger cheese' either).

Place in a griddle pan/frying pan/skillet - cook until outsides brown, insides melty.

You can do same under the grill but you don't get such an even brown or griddle marks if you have such a pan.

It is inferior to a toastie in my opinion.

OP - fire the cleaner. This is how you end up with a cleaner who eats all your biscuits and folds the clingfilm and does bugger all else.

TRexTara · 27/07/2023 19:13

@WiddlinDiddlin thank you! I would prefer a toastie. With real cheddar.

HairyMcHairyFace · 27/07/2023 22:53

American grilled cheese made with nice bread, butter and a strong English cheddar is perfection. I had an American friend at uni who made me grilled cheese at least once a week and I still make them when I'm feeling a bit stressed or I need to make a quick dinner for my children.

How ignorant of you. So tired of British superiority and smugness, trotting out the same old digs at America based on misconceptions.

America has "real" cheese. Cabot cheddar is delicious, Monterey, Colby, I could go on. Americans don't actually eat Kraft singles in plastic wrap 🙄🙄🙄

I've just looked at the Cabot site, they recommend keeping cheese in the fridge and it not being out of the fridge for more than 2 hours.

Cheddar doesn't need to see the inside of a fridge, it should be aged in a cave.

Twatalert · 28/07/2023 13:25

No British person is reasonable to feel superior about cheese Vs the US.

Why not?

Twatalert · 28/07/2023 13:27

Because the rest of Europe looks down on Britain for cheese.

Well then we can look down upon America. Fairs fair.
