Cleaner dunked sandwich press in water

She wanted to clean it and she washed it in the kitchen sink like you would wash a plate. I couldn't believe when I I saw it and she went on to reassure me she does it all the time at other customers houses and the piece of electrical is fine.

I told her that if it stops working I'll have to deduct it from her wage. AIBU? You wouldn't give the toaster a bath.

She's an excellent cleaner but could do with respecting boundaries a bit more. She'd previously water plants when I had just watered them and so some died, feed the cat, bin stuff that wasn't to be binned, ripped off a piece of wood from a floorboard and a few other things. I tell her after when something wasn't ok, but there is always something new and unexpected she does.
I'm always around and she never asks 'is it ok if...'.

I think it’s your responsibility to tell her what to clean as in give her a list of tasks and say only do these things or give her a list of things not to do and say anything else is fair game.

It sounds like poor communication on your part.

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 25/07/2023 19:34

Missing the point but we bought one with removable plates which is amazing.

Myyearmytime · 25/07/2023 19:42

I think we photo of the sandwich press

FrostieBoabby · 25/07/2023 19:43

Missing the point but what is a sandwich press?

PuddlesPityParty · 25/07/2023 19:44

Its called a toastie maker ffs are you trying to make it sound posher 🤣

decaffonlypls · 25/07/2023 19:47

I wash our toastie maker.

Twatalert · 25/07/2023 19:47

The funny thing is it's still not clean and there is still cheese crust sticking to it.

She occasionally cleans it but hasn't in a while and I'm sure she didn't dunk it before. She left it on the drying rack as if it was some pan.

Sigmama · 25/07/2023 19:47

That's really mean taking it off her wages, just buy a n one uf it's broken which it probably isn't

noglow · 25/07/2023 19:48

Toastie maker is the proper ones that seal it round the edge. A sandwhich press is a trousers press for sandwiches that also does paninis - doesn’t seal the edge - rubbish.

You're meant to wipe it after you use it while the cheese is still a bit warm

StellaJohanna · 25/07/2023 19:51

Poor cleaner :( No-one is perfect. Good luck with finding a better one (you won't)

I have a carrot julienne-r. Others call it a knife.

LazyLeopard · 25/07/2023 19:55

Do you mean a panini press?

love ours. *misses point

Exactly this.

it’s your communication not her. You said she’s a brilliant cleaner and I cannot understand why you’d want to deduct money from her wages for this. It’s incredibly mean.

Also why should she even have to clean up the manky cheese encrusted toastie maker? Whoever uses it should be doing that.

Makes me wonder what other crap your poor cleaner has to deal with.

FairAcre · 25/07/2023 19:59

TomatoSandwiches · 25/07/2023 19:17

Get a new cleaner, your one sounds thick as mince.

This. She’s made more than one mistake. Stop moaning about her and get rid.

tt9 · 25/07/2023 19:59

I wouldn't take from her wages because tbf she probably doesn't earn a lot. but I would look for a new cleaner.

Twatalert · 25/07/2023 19:59

@noglow @RachelNoire she doesn't have to clean it and hasn't in ages. And it's up to me how I clean it - if straight away or later.

ZenNudist · 25/07/2023 20:01

No you can't deduct breakages from her wages. You can fire her but I'd just ask her not to do it again if she's an otherwise good cleaner.

okiedokie1 · 25/07/2023 20:05

Debini · 25/07/2023 19:13

I wouldn’t take the money from her wages 🤷‍♀️ I’m sure she didn’t do it on purpose.

You think she dunked an electrical appliance in water to wash it by accident?

Charlize43 · 25/07/2023 20:07

Do you think she has designs on your husband and is trying to murder you?

Duckafuk · 25/07/2023 20:07

My DM and DD had a cleaner who WAS washing the toaster(s) in a bowl of soapy water. They'd gone through 4 in about 6 weeks DDad was CONVINCED the socket was faulty and had booked an electrician, I called in to drop off something and saw it with my own eyes. Bonkers. They stopped booking her .......

Agree with this.
If you're not happy with her, find aa new cleaner, but I don't think it's acceptable to deduct the cost of a new sandwich press from her wages.

Twatalert · 25/07/2023 20:09

I wouldn't deduct the cost of a new piece. More like a fraction of what the current one cost.

Are you on about a toastie maker? It will be fine stop being dramatic

gamerchick · 25/07/2023 20:17

You would have to be especially thick to risk putting something attached to a plug in a sink of water Hmm some very strange people about.

OP, she sounds like hard work. She's got you on edge, so it's game over for this one
