DH always takes the best banana

If in the fruit bowl there is a new bunch of bananas of optimum ripeness and one leftover from the last bunch, which is a day past it's best, he always takes a new one. The old banana is not unpleasant by any stretch, I'm talking about maybe a few tiny brown speckles on the skin, still reasonably firm. I think you should always take the most ripe banana to reduce the chance of waste. He will always take the nicest banana. I think it's because I grew up poor and he was wealthy. He would think nothing of throwing the banana he doesn't want in the bin, I can't stand the waste.

Yanbu - you should always eat the most ripe banana
Yabu - you should take the banana that appeals to you most

Please help me with this incredibly important issue.

(Don't come at me with banana bread. I already have loads of bananas in the freezer awaiting breading)

I can only eat bananas at one specific stage of ripeness otherwise I vomit.

Make a smoothie. Or Nanas and custard.

Here is a great smoothie: One banana, one large tablespoon of almond paste, 2 cups of almond milk and a drop of vanilla essence (add a handful of oats if you wish).

I am loving the fact that this is the second thread in a week when “get a goat” has been the solution to a knotty domestic problem.

Bananas only have a tiny window of optimum ripeness. They go from unripe to overly bananary very quickly. There is no way I would be eating an overripe one, so I am team dh here. They make a great addition to the compost heap, so definitely not wasted here. If you don't want food waste then leave him to buy his own bananas and hide your own.

Is your DH....also my DH?! I don't usually eat bananas. Every week he buys a new bunch. Every week around 2 of them get put on the side as he decides they're now too ripe (read they have a couple of speckles) and he doesn't want them. So I feel compelled to eat a banana I don't otherwise want or make some banana bread so they're not wasted. I don't know why I feel the responsibility to not waste them / guilt if the get wasted, as it's not me who keeps buying new bananas and not eating the old ones but I do.

Maybe it's just the mood I'm in this morning but something in your post really resonated with me as it's not just the bloody bananas is it!

This is mine (pinched from Mary berry and tweaked)

100g room temp butter
175g sugar (Mary uses caster sugar, I use a mix of 125g caster and 50g light brown as it gives it a bit more of a caramelly taste)
225g self raising flour
2 ripe mashed bananas
2 eggs
2 tablespoons of milk
1 teaspoon of baking powder

Just whack it all into a bowl and mix it up until everything is well mixed and there's no dry flour or anything hiding anywhere. Occasionally I chuck some walnuts in too.

Put the mix into a greased loaf tin and stick in the oven at 180c for 50mins to an hour

Thank you! It's in the oven and smells delicious!

Banana custard please. Sadly can no longer digest bananas so is off the menu, as is banoffee pie. Miss both.

Banana chocolate chip muffins are your friend here... I can assure you they will be eaten quicker than you can say over ripe banana.

YANBU. He sounds self centred (like a lot of m3n)
