LOVE ISLAND and other crap

I've never watched Love Island, Gogglebox, or any other programme like that. Is Love Island suitable for a 12 year old to watch? My GD says she watches it all day when she's at home.

Googlebox isn't crap
Love Island is crap.

MollysBrolly · 25/07/2023 17:04

Love island is on at 9pm for a reason. 12 is too young, 14 fine

Abiharwich · 25/07/2023 17:07

Love island is crap and after 9pm watershed.
gogglebox is strangely compelling 😁

Another to say I think Love Island is crap - I think it is past its sell by date - I won't watch it now - watched a couple as sort of car crash TV

Gogglebox ( especially the non celebrity version ) I think can be hilarious - when it started I thought it would be rubbish , but curiously I don't think it is.

Love Gogglebox although I do think it's declined in quality in the last few seasons. Bit more "put on" now than it was.
Love Island is absolutely shit and I've got a lot of issues with the content. I'm actually surprised it's still on what with "cancel culture" but I suppose it rakes in a lot of cash so 🤷

I’ve never watched Love Island. But if you’re the grandparent rather than the parent, it’s not really up to you decide whether it’s suitable or not for her to watch when she’s at home.

Is she asking to watch it at your house? If so, and you suspect she’s fibbing about being allowed to watch it at home, then probably worth checking with her parents. Or, if you’re not comfortable with it at all, you’re obviously totally entitled to say “You might watch it at home, but I’m not having it on at my house”.

If she isn’t asking to watch it at your house, and you’re questioning her parents’ decision to let her watch it at home, then I think you probably just need to step back and accept that it’s not your place to get involved.

Gogglebox is absolutely nothing like Love Island though; they’re not the same sort of thing at all.

Love island is awful and I use to love it. There is swearing, implication of sex, flirting, sex games personally I'd say 16 +.

Goggle box is hilarious but does show scenes from shows like naked attraction so probably 14+

I haven't said I think it's up to me whether she watches it (it clearly isn't). She wouldn't watch it at mine, but she does watch it at home (school holidays, evenings). She's got a tv in her room, as a lot of kids have. I haven't once said I'm involved, so I don't need to "step back" from anything. Thanks for your input

@GetYourHandsOffMyCake well you've done a thread about it... a judgy thread about your own granddaughter. She's a child, she will have different tastes to you, probably grow out of it and if she doesn't what's your problem?

Just sounds like your looking down your nose at her

Zampa · 25/07/2023 19:43

I've given up on Love Island this year but have watched previous seasons. I think it's 14+ and before 18 definitely watching with a responsible adult to decode some of the appalling behaviour.
