My passport expired years ago.
How do I go about getting a new one? I know it’s online. Checked the prices and processing times.

But as it’s expired I don’t know if I need to do anything different.

Can anyone advise please?

I would say it's still a renewal, it's definitely not going to be applying for your first passport. So I'd go through the online renewal steps and if there's an issue the passport office will let you know.

Hi guys I was gonna create a thread but this seem relevant to what I was going to ask anyway but I wanted to get me and my son a passport but I know I need someone to sign it to prove I am who I am or something like that does anyone know who could sign this for me do doctors still do this? Also is it easier to do the application online or should I a paper application and send it off? My baby is only 1 years old does he need someone to still sign his? Thank you I'm advance

You should apply for a passport renewal if your passport is expiring or has recently expired. You must renew your passport within 5 years of the date it expired. If you wait longer than that, you'll have to use the same procedure as a first-time passport applicant.

If you have the expired one, just do an ordinary renewal.

If you don't, report it lost and then do a renewal.

Not too complex.

It’s a renewal whether or not it has expired

Headmaster at school can also do this, and doesn't generally charge......doctors will almost certainly charge you for this.
Online definitely easier.
Not sure about the baby photo signature - sorry - but it will tell you as you complete the form online.

I think it expired more than 5 years ago.

I can’t find it as moving house and everything is in storage and all over the place. Stress!!!

GPs don't do them any more.

Your son's photo has to be countersigned by someone who has known you (not him) for three years, so you just need one person to do both.

It has to be a professional, company Director, postmaster or similar who holds a British passport and has known you for three years.

Do you know an HR manager, college tutor, pharmacist, or postmaster you could ask? Your midwife might be worth a try if you still have one. Housing officer? Librarian?

Report it as lost and then carry on with a renewal. When you report it lost, you just put in as many details as you know and skip any info you don't have. They can almost always trace it.

The list of professionals that can sign is pretty long, I've counter signed and I'm a project manager with a professional qualification.

Both you and your son will need someone to countersign. If you do it online then the person gets sent an email to confirm the details. The list as a pp mentioned is huge. If you know someone who works for a local authority for example. Also if you do it online that means it doesn't need to be someone local to you.

I had this when I last renewed. It just asks you for a bit more information than a regular renewal if you report it as lost.

RoseslnTheHospital · 25/07/2023 16:49

If it's lost, then use the lost passport option as part of the renewal process is posting the old one back. Which you can't do if it's lost.

If you use the online application process and you don't meet the requirements for renewal or lost passport then it will tell you and tell you what you need to do instead.
