To give up coffee!

I remember the first cup of coffee I had - I was young and couldn't sleep for a long time that night.

Since than I have been a lifelong coffee drinker. However I know it could be bad for my moods/anxiety etc.

Has anyone successfully given up caffeine and has it made their lives better?

I gave up caffeine and also decaf drinks 4.5 years ago and it’s had a massive positive impact on my anxiety. It’s also great not having the energy skimps I used to get.

What do you mean by energy skimps?

Sorry that should say energy slumps.

That's what I'm hoping will improve. I'm always tired in the morning..... I "need" coffee on my morning commute and will get the buzz.

Do you want to give up coffee or caffeine or both?

ladyofshertonabbas · 25/07/2023 20:50

Yes, I used to make and drink a litre of coffee before I’d leave the house. It started when I became a single parent to a baby who didn’t sleep, I was so tired. I was a real stress head, very very anxious.
after a trip to a and e with heart concerns, Dr told me to give up caffeine. I’m a different person, very low anxiety and few palpitations. Decaffe is fine, good luck.

I gave it up a couple of years ago when I realised how dependent I was and how much I craved that first caffeine hit of the day, and just didn't want to be a slave to anything like that any more. Only had 1 or 2 a day and always in the morning but after a few weeks I was sleeping better, and my skin was clearer. On the occasion that I've had a coffee in the last couple of years I've hated the caffeine 'hit'. The very sensation I used to crave kinda scared me. Don't even like decaf coffee particularly any more either. Luff my decaf tea!

Yup! Just decided. It was weird at first more that I missed having that thing to look forward to mid morning. And I love coffee shops but thankfully soon discovered the chai latte which still feels special.
