What do you at bedtime?

When it's time for bed my husband says goodnight and goes to bed.

When it's time for me to go to bed I say goodnight, then generally let the dog out, empty the dishwasher, go around and collect any dirty cups, load the dishwasher up again with what's been used since dinner, wipe the sides down in the kitchen, perhaps empty the tumble dryer and hang the clothes up, sometimes even put another load of washing on that will wash overnight, tidy around, make sure the kids school uniform is ready for the next morning, leave out their school lunch money ...

(In his defence, my husband does his fair share of jobs/housework, but when it's his bedtime it's his bedtime)!

I go straight to bed. Tbf I put the kids to bed; and then I get in bed at the same time and I read. DH likes to stay downstairs watching his boring documentary’s on car renovations - so he get the pleasure of locking up!

Friday and Saturday nights we spend together in bed watching movies etc and those days we split the locking up.

If I get home after 12 hour night shift/s

Sometimes make a hot drink & eat small breakfast
Sometimes put the washing out on the line
Sometimes water a few plants in the garden in summer
Then go to sleep in a dark room

WandaWonder · 25/07/2023 02:22

I do one job when I get home from work while DH cooks dinner, after dinner so about 7.30 or so we all relax and do what we want so basically tv then bed is bed time so just sleep after teeth done

mathanxiety · 25/07/2023 02:35

I do all the dishwasher / kitchen stuff earlier, and just go to bed when I feel like it.

CopperSeahorses · 25/07/2023 02:45

I do any chores that need doing earlier in the day/evening then when it's bedtime I just go to bed.

strongcupofTea · 25/07/2023 02:49

You sound like me! My husband falls asleep on sofa goes to bed about 10 and I'm Pottering around till gone midnight.

nalabae · 25/07/2023 03:58

Shower, dog walk, laptop on then sleep

Ragwort · 25/07/2023 05:28

I just go to bed, usually have a bath first. I would do any 'chores' earlier in the evening .. one of us tends to lock the door once we know we're not going out again ... can be 6pm Grin. But both of us are 'morning people' and happily get up early if anything needs to be done.

ArcticBells · 25/07/2023 05:49

Bath, bed, listen to radio 4, then turn over and go to sleep .

decaffonlypls · 25/07/2023 06:18

The dishwasher is done after tea. If we go to bed at same time one let's dog out while other checks house is locked. If we have used any cups we take the in kitchen. I couldn't sit down after kids in bed with dishwasher not done as I wouldn't want to get up again to do it!

GroutScrubberExtraordinaire · 25/07/2023 06:22

The kitchen is tidied and cleaned after dinner. All I do at bedtime is let the dog out and go to bed.

Any further tidying of evening stuff is done the following morning before anyone else is up - ready for the day.

h3ll0o · 25/07/2023 06:27

Going to bed and doing chores are separate things for me. If I was in your shoes, I wouldn’t be declaring I was going to bed until after you’d completed your chosen housework.

ShirleyPhallus · 25/07/2023 06:28

If you’re doing all that then you’re not going to bed so what’s the point in saying goodnight?!

Do all the stuff, then say good night and go to bed…

declutteringmymind · 25/07/2023 06:38

I used to be like you but decided to put sleep first. I know go to bed at 9:30 and lights out at 10pm on weekdays. I'm a new woman.

It's not time for you to go to bed if you've still got jobs left you want to do is it? When it's time for me to go to bed it's AFTER we've locked up etc.

ginsparkles · 25/07/2023 06:53

I go straight up to bed, as I have generally already done the dishwasher, the dog is fast asleep and there isn't really a lot of other things to do.

If there's a wash to hang out I'll either grab it on my way up or ask DH to do it depending on how tired I am, same with feeding the guineas, either I will do it or ask DH to.

So I go up, check in on DD and then spend another hour at least reading Blush
