Was in Jersey recently, why is the Island so busy, traffic was horrendous at times.

Probably because the UK seems to have forgotten to have sumner, and the South of Europe is having a heatwave. I suspect the Channel Islands are a nice balance!

Hufflepods · 24/07/2023 18:49

😂

Ballsacks · 24/07/2023 18:57

Because it's summer...? Because the roads are always shit there?

AnObserverInThisDarkWorld · 24/07/2023 19:04

Maybe ... because the schools in England just broke up and its summer?

TeenDivided · 24/07/2023 19:09

Were you in St Helier & was the tunnel closed?

We came back from Jersey a week ago having stayed for a week and it wasn't busy then.

TeenDivided · 24/07/2023 19:09

Or are you confused, and you were in Guernsey when the Island Games was on? Smile

KnottyKnitting · 24/07/2023 19:10

We were in Jersey a few weeks ago ( before schools broke up) and it struck me how busy it was compared to Guersey. My least favourite of the Channel Islands ( Alderney is out of this world!)

Jersey is lovely. Won't have a word said against it.
The Tortoise Trail is fun this year too.

Narwhalsh · 24/07/2023 19:25

If you’ve been there the last 2 weeks it’s been Scottish & Irish school holidays already

tara66 · 24/07/2023 19:28

It is a small island with not much public transport and the population is now about 112,000 - so quite crowded. Not long ago they were determined to keep population down to 80,000 . Tourist come over for day trips from St Malo who are not used to driving on the left, in addition to Brit. tourists of course.

noglow · 24/07/2023 19:31

Because its small?

RegentCafe · 24/07/2023 19:50

Everybody seems to be moving to Jersey?
I know 3 in past 18 months

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 24/07/2023 19:53

Don't you need £30 million liquid cash assets to move to Jersey?

You can be sponsored cant you?
If you move your company there then you can live there?

But you cant buy housing and the housing that you can rent is graded and you cant rent the best? I think that is what they said.

@RegentCafe I was born on Jersey and left some 30 years ago at age 19, but I think I still have my "quallies" ("entitled" is the new jargon) so I could in theory buy property there... but I haven't checked the rules recently! My parents both moved there for their work (in the financial sector, not as ultra-rich) and eventually bought a house. Odd place.
