To think my neighbour should have been more grateful for my chard

So neighbours have chickens and bring us eggs, which is fab as we no longer keep chickens.

I offered her some chard in exchange which she happily accepted.

She dropped some more eggs over this week and I asked her if she had enjoyed the chard. She said it was too big but ate it rather than throwing it away. Fwiw it was about the size of normal spinach.

I mean seriously! I’ll have it back if it’s not up to standard.

Dropped some courgettes over today, one was slightly large, will await the comments

Tbf she is utterly nuts and a fully paid member of the Lighthouse delivering foil hat brigade. She once questioned me allowing the kids to have the Covid vaccine as it would turn them into robots.

But her chickens lay amazing eggs 🤷🏻‍♀️

You have obvs never eaten my chard!

I don't want to eat your chard, thanks.

But my goat says there's no such thing as "too big" when it comes to chard or lettuce or courgettes for that matter.....🙂

JayAlfredPrufrock · 22/07/2023 21:42

Folk are currently off loading their home overgrown courgettes on the Foodbank. Pity the poor recipients.

AlisonDonut · 22/07/2023 21:42

I love chard but not in the middle of summer. It's a winter thing.

Oh come on. Nobody, but nobody is ever grateful for a marrow (and yes that's what a large courgette is and I'll hear no argument otherwise). My heart sinks when my neighbour approaches with one in his arms Grin

I’d be grateful if a neighbour gave me a marrow , you can make all sorts of dishes with marrow .

AlisonDonut · 22/07/2023 21:43

I have 2-3 cucumbers coming every bloody day, and hardly any courgettes...

YetiTeri · 22/07/2023 21:43

Jesus you sound hard work.

TheHateIsNotGood · 22/07/2023 21:45

I just hope that one day again I can live somewhere where I can keep some hens - if you get their food and environment right, their eggs are the food of the 'gods'.

Coolhwip · 22/07/2023 21:46

I’d love cucumbers and courgettes.

I don’t think chard is equal to the meaty goodness of her amazing eggs. Do you grow any other veg?

Random789 · 22/07/2023 21:51

YANBU.

It isn't that hard
When receiving some chard
To acknowledge the debt
(Let alone the courgette)

Brk · 22/07/2023 21:52

Wow. You sound mega touchy about your chard 😂

Chard is not eaten by most people. I wouldn’t want to be given any. Eggs are useful for loads of things.

Gah, hate chard and courgettes. I’d not be grateful if you unloaded those on me at all. Why not ask neighbour what she might like or need in exchange for the eggs?

Huh? I love both. I'll have yours!

Franklin2000 · 22/07/2023 21:59

My neighbour used to give me a bag of crab apples with the warning ‘they’re a bit tart’ 😂. I smiled and thanked her very much. They’d shrivel your head at first bite. However I wouldn’t dream of critiquing her apples.
Also, I love marrows. I’ll leave now…

You don't eat them raw you muppet, you make Crab Apple Jelly with them !!

motleymop · 22/07/2023 22:03

I understand where you're coming from because I tend to take things a bit personally too, but I think you'll just have to let it go. The sting will be out after a good night's rest 😊

Ha! I gave my neighbour a very large courgette last week. He did seem to be grateful, but now you’ve made me wonder whether he was just being nice Blush

Offyoupoplove · 22/07/2023 22:09

Let’s face it no one really likes chard. At best, it’s sort of okay as you tell yourself how good for you it must be! Eggs are a crowd pleaser.

Are you my mum? She insists they're lovely. I was raised on delights like stuffed marrow and this thing that was like a sloppy and badly seasoned and under-cheesed lasagne but with slices of marrow instead of pasta. Shudder.

I love courgettes. Marrows, I can take or leave. Courgettes have more flavour. Also they are great in bread and muffins.
