I call this Station Serendipity. Mostly its background rather than active listening music for me, but ever now and then I'm introduced to a new artist that really floats my boat.

Yes, exactly this - new artists without having to listen to Radio 1 drivel. I also have a penchant for Kisstory and Xfm, although I have no idea how I enjoyed listening to Chris Moyles all those years ago; and Johnny Vaughn is too much for a try-hard.

I was subjected to Heart radio at work. A few of us would have a sweepstake for which overplayed hit would come up first. The playlist barely changed the whole time I was in that job.

Their tagline, "More Music Variety" made me scornful.
