To feel like there's so much hypocrisy

I live in a town that's really expensive and well to do, also a lot of guardian reading and handwringing but all I see around me is hypocrisy.
Lots of people who have inherited houses or don't work and some one has bought them a house, lots of worrying about the state kf the nation but nobody donates or volunteers, lots of soul searching and self improvement but at the same time people who have a BTL and that's their source of income.

I don't know, I don't want to sound like a bitch but it sickens me, before this I was living in Germany and I felt like there was less of this but I don't know if I'm being unfair or not

To be honest, you sound like one of the same crowd. What’s wrong with having a BTL and providing a service? If you live in this affluent town, how are you putting your money where your mouth is? Or are you just virtue signalling.

However if the broader point your are making is that guardian reading woke warriors are hypocrites, then you are not wrong. They’re not just hypocrites, they are embarrassingly stupid too. As as becoming more and more apparent by the stuff that’s making it into the news.

Hawkins0001 · 21/07/2023 22:55

It's a mix at times

ChristmasFluff · 21/07/2023 22:58

Ay, whatever. Lived in a place like that. I volunteered to campaign for Labour. Wouldn't do it now cos what's the point? Same party, different face.

Maybe they aren't hypocrites. Maybe they are just doing the best they can. Like you.

Think you’ve touched a few nerves op 😬

Hufflepods · 21/07/2023 23:02

Hmm you seem to know a lot of the inns and outs of people’s lives.
Why do you seem to think inheriting a house or coming from money stops you from having any empathy and being concerned about other people? That’s not hypocrisy.
How do you know what anyone does and does not donate?
Things like that aren’t always shared. Even my best friends wouldn’t know what I donate because why would they need to?

Sweetashunni · 21/07/2023 23:04

But yes I know what you mean. They go on about refugees, but don’t want the holding centres just down the road from them. Or how much they worry about the lives of the working class, but don’t want their kids to mix with them so move catchment or send them to private school. Or the housing crisis but they don’t want an estate built in their lovely village, thanks very much. It’s always up to ‘the government’ to fix it but without encroaching on their life in any way.

FOJN · 21/07/2023 23:56

Yup lots of incredibly privileged people are hard of thinking and claim to have "fashionable" values whilst never making any sacrifice themselves. At least they get to kid themselves they're morally superior.

PP was correct, it's always the government's responsibility because these people never think they should pay more tax and yet they all say they hate the Tories and vote Labour for the benefit of the less priviledged.Clueless.

Let's wait and see how many posters are triggered and try to merail the thread.

YabbaDabbaDooooo · 22/07/2023 00:00

I'm not sure how you know all of this about 'lots of people' and how many are you classing as 'lots'?

Could you maybe put a figure on it for context?

Also, I'm wondering in what ways you are so different?

twentyonepoundnote · 22/07/2023 00:01

maybe they are making large donations to charities like Wateraid, etc

Screamingabdabz · 22/07/2023 00:09

I know a lot of MC people who are aggressive guardian-reading socialists but fight tooth and nail to live somewhere where they, and their precious offspring wouldn’t have to encounter a real life working class person, or god forbid, piss poor recently arrived migrants. The more fervently left wing they claim to be, the more leafy farm shop, private school and four wheel drive they appear to be. Strange that.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 22/07/2023 00:26

So maybe I’m being a bit dense here but if the don’t support asylum seekers, why would you think they’d volunteer time with them?

And that could have come from different comments and not the OP…. (And I my be at least 1 cocktail in so probably shouldn’t be engaging in philosophical discussions).
