Nail chipped

Looking for opinions on this scenario....
If you paid £30 to have your nails done (gel) and one chipped/broke off after 1 week and 3 days would you contact the person who did the nails and ask for a repair? The nail started lifting a few days before it chipped but wasn't noticeable.
Context: gel nails usually last 3/4 weeks.

I have been in this scenario this week and messaged the person who did them and asked her very politely if she could repair it for me. She replied 4 days later and asked if I could do the following morning and I couldn't and said it didn't matter now I would just wait until the next time I get them done. The next day my real nail started to break so I messaged again and said actually I'd like it repaired and I would pay for her to do it and now she's not replying to me at all. Just to add to this story my nail lady is also my best friend. AIBU to be getting pissed off that I've paid £30 and don't feel like I'm getting a very fair service? I struggle to believe she would treat her customers who aren't friends like this and I'm paying the same prices that they are.

Mine never last much longer than 2 weeks op. I stated getting them last year and I loved them but it’s so expensive and they’ve wrecked my nails underneath so I’ve stopped now. I was paying £40 a time. Criminal really

I get my nails done frequently, and 3 - 4 weeks really is a push!
£30 is quite cheap too. If she's your best friend, I'd probably have just turned up at the salon rather than faff around with appointments.

LadyLolaRuben · 22/07/2023 08:49

My gel nails get done every 3 weeks. They rarely chip. Occasionally they start to lift during last few days but generally don't peel off. When I have needed a repair, I get a quick appt to repair free of charge.

Followwill · 22/07/2023 08:51

Why didn't you just get it fixed when she first offered? You sound like you had a flounce when she first offered to fix it TBH and now you're complaining about it.

2-3 weeks is the norm depending on growth.

gogomoto · 22/07/2023 09:09

No because they say 2 weeks anyway (mine are really long by 3) and you could have being doing anything??? If you had said 3 days I would have said yes but not 10 days.

jannier · 22/07/2023 09:11

I've had loads of gels for special occasions never last more than a few days without chipping. so now I have Biab amazing 4 weeks and nail is looking healthier

I couldn't make the time she gave me and I decided to wait but the day after the real nail started to chip so I changed my mind and told her that. I was very nice and is my responses not flouncy at all.

To the other poster she works from home so I feel like it would have been a bit intense if I turned up at her door 🙈

I think if you got 10 days out of them I wouldn’t have asked for a repair. Anything under 7 days and I would but by 10 days that’s too late.

Yes biab! That's what I have thought it was gel 🙈 it does usually last tbf a few times that it hasn't lasted 2 weeks.

I'm not annoyed it's chipped I just feel like she thinks im being a pain the arse asking for a repair by taking days to reply and being off with me about it. I have said I will pay for the repair. I just wanted it fixed as I had nearly 2 weeks until my next appt and am going out for a work do in that time (which happens to be tonight).

Why did she not reply to you for 4 days!! What kind of business/friend is she!!

I don't think she thinks of you as a client, just a friend who she fits in around her appointments

I'd consider popping into a high street nail bar with a walk in app for 1 nail fixed then it'll last (hopefully with the other 9) till your next app

Southwest12 · 22/07/2023 09:45

My girl will fix things at any point after they've been done and doesn't charge me, and she charges less than £30 too. I get biab and my nails last anything up to 5 weeks (obviously you can see the growth at the nail bed end).

freetheunicorn1 · 22/07/2023 09:47

The place I go to offers free repairs! I always go if I chip in the first week or so.

Are you sure she's your best friend? Does she also consider you to be hers?

fgfhds · 22/07/2023 10:05

Mine last 2-3 weeks but that's mostly down to me rather than the manicure itself. I find the longer I wear them for the better I am at taking care of them, if I've gone a few months without them the first few months getting them again will only last 2 weeks, then over time they last longer and longer!

I'm too lazy to ask for a repair, but yeah I'm sure my technician would have no issue doing a repair between appointments.

I have some nail glue I use if one starts to lift. And make sure you use manicure oil regularly, makes such a difference.

zebrapig · 22/07/2023 10:16

Mine repair for free in the first 7 days, after that it's a small fee. They rarely chip now but I've changed salons and find this one applies it much better. I normally go 3-4 weeks between appointments and have BIAB.

Biab is a new type of gel that is much stronger and feeds the nail not everyone does it.
