Sprinkler issue .. NDN

Okay. Prepared for my arse to be handed to me except it really is no biggie.

Had the water sprinkler on in the front lawn earlier. Not for long mind- really not long at all. Next thing , NDN is hammering on my front door. Didn’t hear it- was upstairs. Still hammering.

Eventually I heard it, went down and opened the front door and there he was slightly wet as he had been standing directly in front of the sprinkler. 🙄

Quite passive aggressively he asked me to turn down the sprinkler as it was on far too high and “was getting part of his window wet which he had cleaned yesterday”.

He also pointed to the house next door to me on the other sides brick wall and said “ see - look that’s wet and they would not be happy”. ( they’re currently away).
I apologised and turned it off .

Genuinely, was he being a bit of a dick or am I out of order ?

I can absolutely verify it was not on really high and also we are aware of water consumption so it wasn’t on for long . My husband is away at the moment. Somehow I don’t think he’d have knocked if my husband was here.

That aside , I am feeling mentally vulnerable at the moment anyway so perhaps this is a massive overreaction from me.

AIBU?

YANBU next time ignore the door.

ParisP · 21/07/2023 21:54

It depends how it was said - demanding like a true nob head or kindly with warmth.

iLovee · 21/07/2023 21:55

Very gently, yabu. If you got his window wet (especially if it had just been cleaned!) Then i get where he was coming from. It sounds as though he went about the conversation the wrong way though and he was being a dick.

Sorry to hear you're feeling vulnerable 🤍

ParisP · 21/07/2023 21:55

Does he have plans to prevent the rain hitting his windows and the wall?

DustyLee123 · 21/07/2023 21:56

I have a male neighbour who only complains when DH is out too 🙄

misskatamari · 21/07/2023 21:56

His…window…got…wet…? His window… on the outside of his house..? 🤣🤣🤣 fucking hell. God help him when it rains! Yanbu and your neighbours is a div!

Talipesmum · 21/07/2023 21:58

Just turn it down a bit so it doesn’t spray too far.

BeyondMyWits · 21/07/2023 22:03

Why spray his property with water? Did it make an annoying noise?

Just turn it down so it waters only your property, then surely everyone will be happy.

BIWI · 21/07/2023 22:11

I don't think you understand what passive aggressive means!

He was being very clear with you, and very direct. (If anything, more aggressive than passive aggressive).

Do you have a hosepipe ban where you live?

wyntersuhn · 21/07/2023 22:12

He must be incensed when it rains.
YANBU.

Mojitosaremyfavourite · 21/07/2023 22:15

He was just rude . And I’d been upstairs sobbing for the past half an hour previously and opened the door looking like Marylyn Manson with my smudged eye make up so it was blatantly obvious I was in a state.

Maybe I don’t . Apologies. Perhaps it was more aggressive- it was the tone and the way he called me “ love “ but with a bit of a smirk.

Was he wet because he went to your door? so anyone knocking on your door would get soaked 😮

RandomUser29 · 21/07/2023 22:19

Tap water is different to rain. Tap water leaves marks.

Americano75 · 21/07/2023 22:19

Does he shake his fist at the sky when it starts pissing down? Fanny.

Genuinely, I didn’t realise it was going over on his property. My husband usually does this and clearly I had misjudged. His window part that got wet - fair enough, but I was pissed that he pointed to my neighbours brick wall and said how they’d not be happy it was wet. It doesn’t make a noise and I apologised and turned it off straight away.

Where on Earth do you live where you need to water your garden?

And yes, YABU. If you must water then keep it in your own property.

Send dh round with a paper towel when he gets back....

fluffiphlox · 21/07/2023 22:21

I think you are being rather melodramatic, as was your neighbour.

Jongleterre · 21/07/2023 22:21

When you set it up or turned it in coolant you see that the water was hitting his window?

Guiltyfeethavegotnorhythm0 · 21/07/2023 22:21

That's not on , you can't be soaking anyone who comes to the door !

No I don’t think I am. I am battling shit so this is no biggie. Genuinely. Just wanted others thoughts and yes, a bit of a distraction from my mind and my thoughts if I’m honest.
