To be really worried about these results?

DM is 65 and has high blood pressure and pre diabetes.
Today she had severe anxiety as her urine levels came back very concerning.
Urine creatinine is 6.8.
Urine albumin is 40mg.

Blood tests all came back fine including kidney function. No call back from the GP. This was all on the NHS app. She is terrified 😔

Anyone?

You could try giving 111 a ring and asking for a doc to go over the results with you.

Is she unwell? That can cause some funky results when there's diabetes in the mix (even pre diabetes)

From personal experience, if anything was seriously wrong she'd have been contacted and asked to go to a hospital.

QuestionableMouse · 22/07/2023 14:54

Also things like her hydration and what she's been eating can skew the results! Was it a 24 hour test or just one pot of wee?

LittleMonks11 · 22/07/2023 14:56

Check the app again to see if more info has been added such as 'no action' or 'follow up with GP' but definitely call the GP with your concerns. Kidney function normal is good. Best of luck.

Annalisatheantelope · 22/07/2023 14:58

Not feeling unwell. Just been told that she has high blood pressure and pre diabetes going by bloods and pressure tests. Then the urine levels came back like that.
Was just one test.

I'm no doctor (at all, so this is just my opinion based on vague recollections if learning this stuff once..) but the creatine level isn't that bad is it? Albumen looks a bit high. I think it's all about the ratio between the two. I wouldn't panic. I'm sure the doctor can reassure but maybe just her diabetes has worsened a bit...

What's your concern?

QuestionableMouse · 22/07/2023 14:59

As a one off test i don't think she should worry - there's loads to things that can affect the results. I'd try to book in with the gp/nurse and maybe push for a 24 hour test which is more accurate.

ItsRainingAgainnn · 22/07/2023 15:00

(she doesn't need to be terrified. That's the anxiety talking .. have a cup of tea and talk about something else or watch a film)

Musicaltheatremum · 22/07/2023 15:02

I imagine it will be a pot of wee for the albumin creatinine ratio. Looks like she is leaking a little extra protein into the urine but if the kidney function is normal then this can wait until the GP reports in the results.

Annalisatheantelope · 22/07/2023 15:08

She's only meant to have pre diabetes though, not full blown diabetes yet. She is worried that it's caused damage to her kidneys already.
No call from the doctor but then they are very lax as I belong to the same one and they didn't phone me when some of my results were extremely abnormal.
Her albumin and creatinine ratio was 5.9mg.

ItsRainingAgainnn · 22/07/2023 15:23

I'm at the limit of my knowledge now, so googled ! Dr Google reckons 5.9 at the low end of 'high' and not 'very high'. I wouldn't worry. Just wait and see what the doc says.

Butterflytown · 22/07/2023 15:31

I have polycystic kidney disease and another kidney disease and have kidney function (eGFR) of about 40%. My urine creatinine is usually around 13mmol/L (as a one off test, not per 24 hours) so quite a lot higher than your mums. If she’s worried speak to the gp on Monday and ask them to go through the results with you. Don’t worry about what the app says for now- they will flag as abnormal even if only 0.1 out of range. If her kidney function (eGFR) has come back as within normal range then that’s great so try not to worry.

Hibiscrubbed · 22/07/2023 15:33

This is quite moderate. I imagine they will advise lifestyle changes to reverse the prediabetes, and retest.

Don’t be frightened.

Mumtothreegirlies · 22/07/2023 15:41

If her kidney function is fine then it can’t be anything that needs urgent attention. What steps Is she taking to improve her health? Pre diabetes is reversible so with those results this must be a little bit of a wake up call for her.

Annalisatheantelope · 22/07/2023 15:53

She is completely transforming her diet. All very boring so I feel for her but it has to be done.
Reassured by some of the answers on here, thank you.
