To not know whether to go this weekend

Campsite booked on the Isle of Wight Fri and Sat night, returning Sunday evening (we are in SE). Me DH and 3 dcs 11,13 and 17.

Been really looking forward to it. Breakfast outside in the sun, toasting marshmallows, visiting beaches. Just looked and it’s going to rain all fucking weekend.

I know DH will say we should go and we can make it fun but tbh camping in the rain is shit. DCs not huge camping fans at the best of times. I know there are indoor things to do but predict we will end up spending a fortune on castles, restaurants, cinema etc. Just so bloody disappointed, I know you can’t predict British weather but didn’t think it would pour the whole time.

Just don’t know whether to go or not.

If you are in a tent I wouldn’t go.

Romitofrincone · 20/07/2023 05:18

We are in a tent...

Imagine the mud. And kids stuck in a small area.

Aprilx · 20/07/2023 05:23

Yes it does look like rain all weekend. Sounds miserable and if family don’t like camping anyway, why on earth would you go. Cancel!

What a shame, it's awful weather isn't it.
The rain looks pretty widespread, we were going on a 10 mile group walk on Saturday but I'm not now, DH still is though, he just said to me to dress for it. It's a 10 mile yomp over field type footpaths- no thanks. He also went camping last weekend and come back early because everything was soaked, he had intended to stay a few extra days after the event he attended but couldn't get anything dry.

Romitofrincone · 20/07/2023 06:36

Thanks. Definitely leaning towards not going right now. Just gutted as was so looking forward to a weekend of walks, swims, picnics and fry ups in the sunshine!

I've been watching the weather too, it is edging towards improving. When do you have to decide?

Romitofrincone · 20/07/2023 06:48

Think we will have to decide by tonight.

I would be cancelling. It sounds like it will be a complete chore and I'm all for trying to make the most of it but nothing will dry and everything will be so incredibly muddy, it's just not worth the hassle and the inevitable moaning.

Can you book a last minute caravan park or glamping type thing instead?
It’s hard when you have an image in mind but I’d still go and just try to have a “different” kind of holiday than expected. Can you take board/card games? There’s a thing called Exit game which is really fun (like an escape room)
Download films onto iPads etc

Pepperama · 20/07/2023 07:01

Postpone or swap to an Airbnb if you can’t do another time. I’d still want to go away at some point

Whinge · 20/07/2023 07:02

I would try to book different accommodation, at least if you have a caravan / lodge you have some indoor space.

If you can't book anything else I would cancel. A wet weekend in a tent isn't anyones idea of fun, especially not with 3 teens.

miamiibiza · 20/07/2023 07:05

Definitely swap to the caravan park. Great idea!

iow

Just look at Park Dean resorts. You can book a caravan for three nights from £200. Is that an option?

Brilliant idea

Thanks all - some great ideas!
