Bad Feedback

I work as a technical report writer and have just started work for a new company. I had a meeting today and was told that my last report wasn’t good enough - it had missed a few key technical points and the formatting was off.
If I am being completely honest I did rush it. I’ve got so many reports in my queue and thought it was a nice simple one. So I left doing it for ages and then it turned out not to be simple at all.
Anyway, AIBU to feel really upset? The bad feedback was deserved. I know that. I just don’t know how to put it right. I’m worried about losing my job. I’m only a few months in and still very much on probation. I feel so stupid now.

To make things worse even though my boss was quite nice about it I still cried in our meeting. So embarrassing having to go back tomorrow now.

I feel for you OP, that's a horrible feeling. The only thing I would say is deep breath, head high, own it and apologise, keep pushing on and use it as a learning tool not to rush again.

I know that's easier said than done, but in a weeks time it will sting a little less, in a month even less and so on until it's a distant memory. It won't feel as raw and awful as this forever.

Thanks @Crimblecrumble1990. I should have been in bed hours ago but instead keep reliving the meeting. Don’t know how I’m going to face work tomorrow. 😭

@Mooomow read this article and it might help. I read it after I made a mistake at work and it helped me almost instantly. Remember it's not the end of the world, you won't do if again and you'll be a better employee from it. Moving on after messing up at work

Thanks for this. I’m reading it this morning on the bus. Did feel like staying in bed this morning but I’m here.

You got this OP ! You messed up but you are gonna make it right.

how you fix your mistakes will show your boss how great you are.

Heyisforhorses · 25/07/2023 23:23

How was your week @Mooomow? Are you okay now?

mainbrochus · 26/07/2023 10:34

thinking of you OP.

I got this quote from mumnset, I read it everyday before work:

All jobs are dead end jobs. You don’t win the job when you’ve finished.

You retire and then you die.

It’s not Mario Cart. You don’t get a trophy and infinite lives…
