His gender critical views (the her penis retweet) are protected, Miller, Scottow, Forsater, Bailey and others.

Swrigh1234 · 19/07/2023 23:10

You’re an idiot if you think that it couldn’t happen to you. If it happened to Farage because of his political views, it could be Joe public next.

It has happened to many. A feminists group, a parents group, Wings over Scotland, a Vicar and a religious group - all have GC views.

And several relatives of Conservative politicians.

It's frightening that people will support something fundamentally as illiberal a debanking on ideological grounds just because they don't like the target.

They are always so smug about their luxury beliefs too. The woke lie about everything, they lie that they are kind, they lie that they are inclusive, they lie that all are equal - if they even mention equality anymore, they lie about diversity of opinions and they lie about biology.

How could NF be affecting their brand when before he had his account closed no one knew who he banked with.

He'd been public about it a few years ago. Anyway, it was explained on Newsnight tonight that it was his paying off his mortgage that led the bank decide to let him go.

WeightInLine · 19/07/2023 23:33

DisquietintheRanks · 19/07/2023 23:02

No they haven't.

They’ve breached a ton of regulations. Leaking that NF didn’t have enough money is a very significant breach and if they can find out who did that they will lose their job and have any professional accreditation rescinded.

Failing to apply their standards fairly and openly is also unlikely to be met. Coutts is in trouble for sure.

Coyoacan · 19/07/2023 23:46

CapEBarra · 19/07/2023 21:45

Are you sure it’s not because he didn’t have enough cash? Either way, I have no problems with this. It’s bad for business to have someone as toxic as Farage associated with your brand.

Sounds nice but what if the wind changes and next time Farage sympathiser decide that people like you should not have an account?

ThisTimeIts · 20/07/2023 05:05

But it still manages to find Farage guilty because his views 'do not align with our [Coutts'] values'.
Other than generalised pabulum about inclusivity and diversity plus an obsession with climate change, we are left in the dark about what these values are or what makes them so special.

Not a Farage sympathiser, I simply can't stand the woke religion and the way that the new Puritanism operates, if you break their interpretation of the four commandments (having a huge carbon footprint and excluding wrong think is ok though) DEI and sustainability = ESG score - hello!

The smug faces of the woke is a sign to behold, they are delighted with themselves that they have this religion and are it's correct thinkers, it's bizarre.

This is a new form of McCarthyism, writes ANDREW NEIL

ANDREW NEIL: Nigel Farage's bank Coutts is closing his personal and business accounts because it does not like his politics.

AutumnCrow · 20/07/2023 05:31

Well it’s all coming out of the woodwork today.

More criticism coming the BBC’s way. Did Coutts Bank dupe a BBC journalist? And why were both the bank and the BBC so keen on running an inaccurate story? Too good to check?

This is not about the person. It’s about ideas and principles, and the behaviour of those at the top and supposedly ‘impartial’ BBC journalists.

And yet again their zealotry has back fired, even people who don't like NF are defending him because what they have done is so wrong. He will be everywhere now as he tells his story and if he takes legal action we can look forward to a full on media circus with him as the ring master. I despair at how stupid these people are, I can only assume they are blinkered by their own moral righteousness.

I don't think a lot of people fully understand the implications of a cashless society combined with businesses in pursuit of higher ESG scores. Our new rulers won't be elected and you WILL obey.

BillaBongGirl · 20/07/2023 06:34

It’s not a dangerous precedent at all. Private businesses have the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason other than an equality act protected characteristic. Being a bigot and racist isn’t a protected characteristic. There are plenty of other banks he can use.

ThisTimeIts · 20/07/2023 06:37

Maybe the smug woke useful idiots will start to put the pieces together before they will be in the wall as they go before dissidents like Farage.

The bankers can change Tennis player / ESG / Ricky Gervais joke (if Farage was cancelled due to the Gervais retweet, shouldn't all who pay a Netflix direct debit and saw Gervais live be cancelled too?

They can see what you and family bought and when) checks and cancelling for checking who bough for Taylor Swift via ticketmaster if she later annoys them.

It's a risk assessment.
If he gets sanctioned for something (such as financial connections with Russians, as a purely hypothetical example) that will cost them. They've decided he isn't worth the risk, rather than any moral judgement.

This!

Sugarplumfury · 20/07/2023 06:51

Like others have said, this sets a dangerous precedent. I loathe the little worm, but it’s not for institutions to judge our beliefs or political views and decide whether they want your custom based on that. You could find yourself denied a whole host of services on that basis. Very concerning indeed. Maybe it would end up with us all filling in a questionnaire to see if our views align with the hairdresser we want to cut our hair, the decorating firm we have got an estimate from or the garage we have booked our MOT with.

AutumnCrow · 20/07/2023 06:55

Well quite, @Sugarplumfury.

I don’t think my beliefs (which ARE a protected characteristic) should be relevant to my accessing medical services either - but it’s been happening already in the NHS.

Isn’t it weird how it has taken Farage catching out Coutts for the government to take a look at the EDI industry? EDI is the grift, driven by grifters and lunatics.

Qbish · 20/07/2023 06:57

Here are the questions that Andrew Neil has been asking Coutts on Twitter:

Some questions for Coutts & Co:

Who compiled and agreed the political tests that you used to decide who can be your customers (and resulted in Nigel Farage being banned from banking with you)?
Does it have the approval of your CEO?
Does it have the support of your parent bank, @NatWestGroup?
What was the process by which the Farage decision was taken?
Was your Chairman involved and did your board approve?
You write of Farage not aligning with your values. Who determined these values?
Do other banks in the NatWest Group have the same or different political tests.
Who compiled the report into Farage?
Who took the decision to terminate his account?
How many accounts have you terminated on political grounds?
Will you publish the political tests that must be passed so customers can judge if they fulfil them?
Do you hold accounts for any political figures or officials involved in undemocratic regimes or territories where human rights are not observed?
Do you have accounts of people with criminal records or tax evasion/avoidance prosecutions?
Do you accept that as a public company 40% owned by the taxpayer you have an obligation to answer these questions?
If you do not accept such accountability have you started preparing answers for your inevitable appearance before a Commons select committee?

Qbish · 20/07/2023 06:57

And:

Additional question Wednesday morning for Coutts & Co:

Your own internal documents now make it clear you closed N Farage account for failing your political tests. So when you briefed the BBC and FT earlier that it was because he no longer had sufficient funds to merit an account with you, were you lying?

BillaBongGirl · 20/07/2023 06:57

How is this a precedent in any way?! Racist beliefs are not a protected characteristic. Businesses refuse services to people all the time for different reasons. Restaurants can refuse to offer vegan or kosher or halal options. Banks refuse custom to people who don’t have minimum income or savings amounts (classist). Shops refuse service to people not wearing shirts or shoes. Clubs refuse service to people not meeting a dress code.

There is no legal requirement or cultural practice that a private business must serve everyone who rocks up.

ThisTimeIts · 20/07/2023 07:00

Especially 39 minutes in to Hypernormalisation - the banks and people who captured them, have been playing the long game !

We are under a Mafia style fascism, worship money and what they tell you to, or you will be unable to buy and sell.

Today Gervais and the Tennis player are on the naughty list, tomorrow it could be Taylor Swift and Marcus Evans for exacting wrong think and anyone who ever had any interest in them will be cancelled.

BillaBongGirl · 20/07/2023 07:04

No one is being cancelled. Farage isn’t without any bank account, the company offered him a Nat West account. Problem is he wants the cache that comes with banking with the very exclusive and elite Coutts.

The banks are using AI and humans to create an additional system with information on you to go alongside your current credit rating. Every charity, every direct debit and transaction you made has been logged. This is being matched up to social media and they run back to years of data.

One incident of the perception of wrong think going back years and the same will happen to you, people will not care about you, you will be dismissed and left to die, as that is what will happen to the unbanked underclass because you are perceived as not a s human as others due to wrong think.

Thanks for repeating this.

Some posters, even today, seem to have missed the memo.

Did a head honcho at the bank lie to the BBC about a customer’s confidential details?
